The Le Mars Community baseball team suffered a pair of losses at the hands of No. 5 Bishop Heelan on Thursday by scores of 8-3 and 15-3 in six innings.
The losses came on the heels of a pair of defeats in which the Bulldogs scored just one run. Le Mars saw their offense hit more of a consistent stride in both games even recording over 10 hits in the first game. Head coach Kendall Candor says the guys put in some work prior to the Heelan games to get better at the plate.
Throughout the night, all nine players gave the Bulldogs a chance to score either by getting hits or by getting on base. Coach Candor says that is important if they want to contend in the future.
Bulldog pitchers struggled against a complete lineup the Crusaders put together at the plate. Coach Candor says the Crusaders do not beat themselves at the plate making them hard to pitch to.
Le Mars is able to use the weekend to their advantage having five days before they play another doubleheader on Tuesday. Coach Candor says this will be a good time to regroup before another important run in the season.
Le Mars’ next doubleheader is on Tuesday at Sioux City North. Game one begins at 5:30 PM.
