Hinton softball drops state tournament opener in first appearance since 2010

The Hinton softball team played in their first state tournament game since 2010 on Monday afternoon dropping a 6-2 decision to Iowa City Regina in Fort Dodge.

With this being Hinton’s first state tournament trip in 16 years, the butterflies were flying for Hinton early on. Head coach Jennifer Jacobs-List says she was proud of how her team played and happy they could get this opportunity.

Hinton fell behind early giving up three runs in the first inning with all three coming on a home run from Harper Erwin. The Blackhawks never backed down scoring a run in the second and fourth innings to cut the deficit to one. Coach Jacobs-List loved the fight and resilience her team showed.

Both of Hinton’s runs in the game came courtesy of Regina errors in those innings. Coach Jacobs-List says getting mistakes like that at state are rare, and you have to take advantage of them.

Hinton drops to 26-5 and will play in the consolation game tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. In a change from the expected, Hinton will play the No. 1 seed in Grand View Christian who dropped their opener to eighth seed Cardinal. Coach Jacobs-List says nothing about their gameplan changes even though they are playing the top team in the bracket.

Hinton’s matchup with the Thunder is set for 10:00 AM on Tuesday morning. Pregame coverage will hit the air on KLEM at 9:45.
