Plymouth County Historical Museum to Celebrate Renovation of Weber Windmill
The Plymouth County Historical Museum invites the public to celebrate the renovation of the Weber Windmill on the museum campus during a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, September 9th, at 4 p.m.
Museum Administrator Jennifer Scholten talked about how volunteers approached the project.
The windmill was donated in 1992 by Norman Weber from its original location near Seney.
Scholten talked about the renovation.
The event will recognize the volunteer team whose work brought the windmill renovation project to completion.
Scholten says the Weber Windmill stands as a lasting tribute to the dedication of the volunteers who renovated it, and its completion adds a striking, updated landmark to the museum grounds.
Le Mars Man Found Guilty of First-Degree Murder
(Tri State News)— A Plymouth County jury has found Omar Martinez Cruz guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the 2024 shooting death of Miguel Martinez-Luna in Le Mars.
The verdict was returned following a multi-day trial in Plymouth County District Court. Prosecutors argued that Martinez Cruz intentionally caused the death of Martinez-Luna during a shooting that occurred at a Le Mars residence on September 30, 2024.
A conviction for first-degree murder in Iowa carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentencing is expected to take place at a later date.
Cars & Coffee Saturday
A Special Car Show takes place tomorrow (Saturday) morning in Le Mars. Red Shed Enterprises and Greenfield Auto Specialties are hosting this first ever event called “Cars & Coffee” from 8 a.m. till 11 a.m.
They are inviting all models and years of cars to park with the best local builds at 875 Prospect Street SW. No registration is required.
Spectators are invited to enjoy refreshments from both Sippin’ 712 and Habitue’s mobile trailers and then visit the “Garage at 800” just across the street from the car show. That facility hosts non-profit events throughout the year and features a variety of cars and trucks, vintage signs, outboard boats from the 60’s, gas pumps, along with replica storefronts from downtown L e Mars. For a $10 entrance fee, you’ll see this one-of-a-kind venue with all proceeds benefiting the Hometown Le Mars Heritage Foundation. Mimosas and breakfast pastries will also be available for purchase.
Highway 75 Sioux Center Update
After 4 ½ years of construction, completion of the 2 ½ mile Highway 75 project in Sioux Center is in sight. That project is anticipated to be fully opened to two-way traffic sometime in November of this year.
The project kicked off in 2022, updating underground utilities and rebuilding the 2 ½ miles of highway with two lanes of traffic in each direction, center turn lanes, medians, and sidewalks. This is a joint project between the City of Sioux Center and The Iowa Department of Transportation.
A ribbon cutting is planned for this fall.
