In Gehlen Catholic’s five-set win over MMCRU on Thursday night, Gehlen senior Addi Castle recorded 18 assists to bring her career total above 1,000 in a Gehlen Catholic uniform.
Castle becomes just the sixth Gehlen Catholic setter to reach the milestone in the program’s recent history. Castle says she was caught off guard by how close she was to the milestone.
Castle has been Gehlen’s setter for the better part of three seasons at the varsity level. She says that has given her plenty of time to work on her craft and continue to get better.
In the match, Castle also recorded 13 kills, nine digs, and an ace proving her versatility. Castle says originally being a hitter on offense appealed to her more.
The adjustment to the setter position in high school was a bit daunting at first, but Castle says she was willing to put the work in to make the team better.
Castle’s head coach Jessie Bohnenkamp says this achievement could not have come to a better person on the team.
The achievement came as part of a dramatic five-set win that gave the Jays a lot of confidence. Castle says it is important the Jays take what they learned so they can continue to improve going forward.
Gehlen Catholic is 10-4 on the season and 4-1 in the War Eagle Conference following the win over MMCRU and five wins at the West Monona Tournament.
