The Le Mars Community boys golf team finished four at the Missouri River Activities Conference Tournament at Willow Creek Golf Course on Thursday.
The Bulldogs shot a 310 as a team which was nine strokes off of Bishop Heelan’s winning total. Le Mars head coach Nick Knapp says he is not upset with the score, but he knows there are places where it could have been better.
The tournament was originally supposed to be played on Tuesday, but rain had its way with the schedule and took away the chance for it to be played on time. Coach Knapp says the adjustment to the schedule ended up helping out the team.
The cooler weather paired with the saturated ground that the guys were playing in made conditions very challenging throughout the competition. Coach Knapp says his team ended up leaving most shots short throughout the day.
Owen Schrunk was Le Mars’ top golfer shooting a 75 to finish sixth overall in the tournament. Coach Knapp says Schrunk has proven himself to be a great golfer all season.
This is Le Mars’ final competition before the district meet that they will also host in Le Mars on Monday, October 5. Coach Knapp says this tournament should be a wake-up call before welcoming in some tough teams to town with spots in the state meet up for grabs.
The district meet tees off at 10:00 AM on Monday morning at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars.
