Le Mars volleyball ends season with straight-set loss at Sergeant Bluff-Luton

The Le Mars Community volleyball team ended their season on Thursday night falling in three sets to Sergeant Bluff-Luton in Sergeant Bluff.

The Bulldogs came out as an underdog, but they did not play like one. Le Mars showed great fight and energy as they attempted to knock off a solid team. Head coach Jess Wolles says she was happy with the effort of her team.

The offensive side struggled throughout the night with a handful of attacking errors and some stretches of rough passing. Coach Wolles says she wanted to see a little more intensity in that aspect of the game.

The Bulldogs fell behind most of the night and could not find a way to stage a comeback. Even when they were playing well, it came after a rough patch that they constantly had to dig out of. Coach Wolles says that is taxing on a volleyball team.

The Bulldogs will graduate three seniors with Kenzie Niehus, Kali Cunningham, and Josie Mescher ending their high school volleyball careers. Coach Wolles says all three of them brought great leadership skills to the program.

Coach Wolles says that the leadership presented by the seniors will pay off over the next few years with the youth that will be returning next season.

Le Mars ends the season with a record of 8-27. Sergeant Bluff-Luton advances to the region final on Tuesday night to take on No. 6 Sioux Center.
