Le Mars Public Library approves RFP with FEH Design
During Monday’s Le Mars Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting, board members unanimously approved a Building Feasibility Request for Proposal (RFP) bid from FEH Design. The Library received nine RFP’s, but went forward with FEH Design out of Sioux City for a price point of $45,000. Board members repeatedly cited FEH’s extensive experience constructing libraries in the area.
Shirley Taylor, the Le Mars Public Library Director, spoke on the long-overdue need for a larger library space, which has been shown in multiple Space Needs Assessments since 2010.
The money needed for the RFP will come from a bequest left to the Library in 2019.
Taylor strongly encourages participation in upcoming public engagement sessions so the Library knows what people “would like to see in their community library.”

Two Siouxland women arrested on warrants
On Saturday at approximately 2:22 a.m., the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office arrested Margarita Rene Vega, age 28, of Sioux City and Mandy Catherine Horn, age 50, of Le Mars. The arrests stemmed from an incident in which a deputy observed a vehicle registered to Horn reverse down the roadway near 200th Street and get onto K64 traveling southbound in an attempt to avoid the deputy.
The deputy then attempted to catch up to the vehicle and found the driver had fled from the vehicle and abandoned it in the roadway near the intersection of K64 and C38. The driver, identified as Margarita Vega, was located and taken into custody. At the time, Vega had an active warrant for a parole violation.
Deputies then were able to make contact with the owner of the vehicle, Mandy Horn, at her residence. Horn was also taken into custody for an active warrant out of Woodbury County for Habitual Theft. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Le Mars Police Department, Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol.
