With the increase of electronic technology, many people may wonder if there is still a need for a printed copy of a book? Taylor says internal research shows patrons of the Le Mars Public Library overwhelmingly check out more printed material than utilizing electronic media.

Maybe somewhat surprising, Taylor says the younger generations still prefer a printed copy as opposed to reading the story on-line, or through electronic means.

Taylor says more than 77,000 people visited the Le Mars Public Library during the past fiscal year between July 1st of 2015 and June 30th of 2016. She says it was suggested by state officials the Le Mars Public Library count the number of reference questions and directional questions that are answered by the staff.

The Le Mars Public Library Services Director says the staff is preparing to get books and other reference materials organized for when the library will move across the street into the Eagles Club during the renovation of the public library. She says the library will utilize the Eagles basement and upper level
beginning in mid-May.

School Board Approves First Reading Of Policy Forbidding Middle School Students From Practicing With High School Students

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Community School Board approved a first reading for a new policy relating to middle school students participating in sports with high school students. The discussion was brought up when a parent had asked if the school district would allow a Middle School student to practice wrestling with
the high school wrestling team. The parent feels the higher level of competition would make the student stronger and improve on his wrestling skills. Prior to this incident, the Le Mars Community School District didn’t have an official position or policy dealing with the topic. However, after some discussion, the
school board approved a policy that would prevent Middle School students from practicing or participating in contact sports with high school students. The policy includes the sports of volleyball, football, wrestling, and basketball.

Many consumers now go shopping on-line, instead of shopping at a local store. Pick says to make certain when shopping on-line that the business or company is using secured technology.

The American Bank official suggests when shopping on-line, never use a public access wi-fi system.

Pick says you should read the website’s privacy policies. Although they are often long and complex, privacy policies tell you how the site protects the personal information it collects. Pick says if you don’t see or understand a site’s privacy policy, then consider doing business elsewhere.
