ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS SCHEDULED FOR LE MARS

The City Of Le Mars Street Dept. will be closing a portion of Plymouth St. between 10th Ave. S.E. and 11th Ave. S.E. starting this morning April 23, 2018 for some patch work on Plymouth St.

This project should take around 2 weeks to finish, weather permitting.

The City Of Le Mars Street Dept. will be closing 1st St. S.W. between Bus. 75 and 6th Ave S.W. and will close 6th Ave. S.W. between 1st St. S.W. and Plymouth St. starting today for a new concrete overlay on those two streets.

The project will last about 1 month and that is weather permitting.

MERRILL MAN INJURED IN WEEKEND CRASH

On April 21st at approximately 12:21 am the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a single vehicle accident around the intersection of C38 and K42 North of Merrill.

The caller advised the vehicle had flipped and was on its top. When officers arrived on a single occupant, later identified as Corey Ruhland age 45 of Merrill Iowa, was found with the overturned vehicle.

The subject was transported to Floyd Valley Hospital, and later flown by Mercy Air Care to Mercy hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The criminal investigation and accident are ongoing.

LE MARS NATIVE AMONG VOLUNTEERS HONORED FOR SERVICE WITH BILLBOARDS

The faces of six Siouxland area community volunteers may become a familiar site over the next few months.

Volunteer Siouxland chose the six people to be showcased on billboards to recognize their contributions to their community through volunteerism.

Spokesman Ryan Martinez says the six were chosen from a two month competition which allowed organizations to recognize some of their great volunteers:

Carrie Radloff of Sioux City is one of the six to soon be on the billboards.

She chairs the city’s Environmental Advisory Board and the Northwest Iowa Sierra Group, plus is an officer with a Loess Hills group:

Terri Pauling, another of the six volunteers has helped out at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars since 2009:

Pauling says she has never been on a billboard before and was surprised by the honor:

The other four are Chris Van Beek of Maurice, Jon Strong of Hawarden, and Dan Bernholtz and Amy Macfarlane of Sioux City.

Avery Brothers Signs sponsored the competition and are providing the billboards for the six recipients.

TWO STABBED IN MORNINGSIDE IN SIOUX CITY

AN AFTER HOURS PARTY ENDED WITH TWO MEN STABBED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING IN MORNINGSIDE.

SIOUX CITY POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDED TO 1701 SOUTH PATTERSON AT 3:09 A.M. FOR AN ASSAULT.

UPON ARRIVAL, OFFICERS FOUND TWO MEN IN THEIR EARLY 20’S SUFFERING FROM STAB WOUNDS.

THE TWO WERE TREATED FOR NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL AND RELEASED.

OFFICERS DO HAVE A SUSPECT IN MIND. NO ONE HAS BEEN ARRESTED.

FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN BOONE

More information is expected to be released today (Monday) about the fatal shooting of a man by police in Boone. Radio Iowa’s Pat Curtis reports.

It happened Saturday. In a news release issued Sunday, Boone Police said officers were sent a home (at 620 2nd Street) on a report of a “domestic situation.”

Upon arrival, the officers encountered a man who was shot and killed by the officers.

The news release did not identify the man or provide other details about whether the man was armed or what led to the shooting.

The Iowa DCI is helping with the investigation.

OMAHA MAN DIES AFTER DAUGHTER BACKS SUV INTO A POND

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – The Nebraska State Patrol says a 90-year-old Omaha man died after his daughter backed their SUV into a pond.

The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday near Two Rivers State Recreation Area west of Omaha.

State Patrol Lt. Matt Sutter says 61-year-old Joni Carveth of Fresno, California, backed the vehicle out of a driveway and into the pond.

Carveth’s father, Dewey Andersen, had trouble getting out of the GMC Yukon. Carveth ran to a nearby home to call for help.

Rescuers found Andersen floating in the water and unresponsive. He died later at a hospital.
