KLEM GM is Broadcaster of the Year

(West Des Moines)–A Sioux City man has been honored for his commitment to broadcasting  and dedication to community service with the Iowa Broadcasters
Association “Broadcaster of the Year” award.

The General Manager of Powell Broadcasting, with radio stations in
Sioux City and Le Mars, Dennis Bullock, received the prestigious
award.  The honor was given by Powell Broadcasting Director of Sales
Dave Grosenheider Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Iowa Broadcasters
Association’s summer convention in West Des Moines, Iowa.

“This award pays tribute to Denny’s integrity, hard work and sense of
community,” Grosenheider said. He described Bullock as a “hands-on
manager and a mentor who has passion for helping young people enter
and succeed in the field of broadcasting.

Bullock has held sales and management positions in a 28-year
broadcasting career.  He has been general manager of Powell
Broadcasting since December of 2001. The stations include KLEM 1410 AM 96.9 FM in Le Mars and KOOL 99.5 FM;  KSCJ 1360 AM; KSUX 105.7 FM;  Y101.3 FM; New 102.3 FM, all of  Sioux City.

 

 The Sioux City native’s many leadership
positions include Chairman of the Sioux City Public Museum Board of
Trustees, Siouxland Chamber of Commerce board member, a director of
Pioneer Bank and a Crittenton Center board member. He is active with
the Chamber Ambassadors and Women Aware. His activities with Sioux
City
Rivercade have included Board President and Commodore. The
Advertising Federation of Sioux City presented Bullock with the Silver
Medal Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

When he received the award, Bullock said, “Frankly, I’m humbled. Being recognized by those who know and understand your industry better than anyone else is the highest professional honor that could ever be bestowed upon someone.”

A graduate of Sioux City West High School and Briar Cliff College,
Bullock and his wife, Laura, have two sons, Michael and Rob.
