Traffic snarls in Ames area

(AMES)–The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and Iowa State Patrol are reporting persistent traffic snarls in the Ames area due to the closure of Interstate 35, U.S. 30, U.S. 69 and Ames city streets due to flooding.

The Iowa DOT and Iowa State Patrol are asking for the public’s assistance and cooperation by avoiding this area if at all possible. The goal is to reduce local traffic on these roads and accommodate interstate travelers that are without options and must use them.

All main highways or streets into/out of Ames are affected by the flooding; many within the city are flooded as well.
