Pride Night Tonight

(LeMars) — Get ready for Pride Night scheduled for this evening. 

 

The festivities begin at 5:30 with a joint tailgate party sponsored by the Gehlen Catholic and LeMars Community booster clubs, and the pep rally will start at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Jim Lorenzen Football stadium, near the LeMars Community High School.  Both Gehlen Catholic and LeMars Community schools will introduce their football and volleyball teams as well as cheer squads.  There is also a chance for some lucky individuals to win some cash with the kick for cash contest.

(Remsen) — Remsen-Union Community School will hold its “Back to School Bash” this evening.  The fun is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. There will be fun and games for all sizes as well as a silent auction.  The concession stand will be open featuring pulled pork sandwiches.  Admission is a non-perishable food item that will go to the Mid-Sioux food pantry.  Proceeds from the event will go towards upgrading the playground equipment.

(LeMars) — The LeMars Community School Board will meet this evening.  The board will hear reports from Ted Hallberg and Bruce Ludwig as they discuss the scope and sequence for the K-12 music curriculm and the technology update.  Dr. Todd Wendt, the district’s superintendent, will present his annual report for the board’s review.

(LeMars) —  The Plymouth County auditor’s office has released information regarding absentee voting for the various school districts.  Absentee ballots for the upcoming school boards elections are now ready in the Plymouth County Auditor’s office from 8-5 Monday through Friday. The last day to request absentee ballots to  be mailed to voters is Friday, September 9th. Ballots must be postmarked Monday, September 12th in order to be counted.  The last day to vote in the Auditor’s office is Monday, September 12th.  Voting on Tuesday, September 13th for the Le Mars School District will be from 7a.m.-8p.m.  and voting will be noon-8p.m. for Akron-Westfield, Hinton, Remsen-Union and the Kingsley-Pierson School Districts.  All voting for the Akron-Westfield school district will all be held at the Akron Public Library at 350 Reed St.   All voting for the Le Mars School District in Merrill will be at the Kissinger Community Center-lower level at 608 Main St.

(LeMars) — If you are intending to travel on Noble Avenue in Plymouth County you now have the opportunity to make that trip without making a detour.  Plymouth County Engineer Tom Rohe has announced the bridge replacement project has been completed between 150th and 160th streets.  Also, LeMars city officials have announced that the intersection at Central Avenue and 5th Street NW has now reopened.

(Orange City) — Completion of a new residence hall and the renovation of the DeWitt Physical Fitness center top the list of improvements made to Northwestern College’s campus this summer.  North Suites, a residence hall for men will open this fall.  It is a three story, 23,000 square feet dorm built for $3.5 million.  It will house 68 students in 17 suites-each with its own bathroom – and includes numerous community areas, including a main floor lobby with adjoining full kitchen.  The new building will be dedicated on Friday, September 30th, the day before Northwestern’s homecoming.  A dedication of the renovated fitneww center is also scheduled for September 30th.  The $1.5 million summer project added windows to the four-court area of the Rowenhorst Student Center, along with new flooring, lighting, and an updated heating system.
