(LeMars) — Another successful phonathon was held yesterday as the Knights of Columbus raised money for the Life Skills Training center and Special Olympics.
More than $46,500 was raised during the event. officials are optimisic that when call backs are completed the total will be close to the base goal of $48,000.
(Sioux City) — Delta Dental of Iowa is presenting the Siouxland Chapter of the American Red Cross with a $5,000 check in recognition of the work done during the Missouri River flooding. Delta Dental representatives will make that presentation later this morning at the American Red Cross offices located on War Eagle Drive in Sioux City.
(LeMars) — Sunday, marks the tenth anniversary of the tragic events of 9-11 when arab terrorists hijacked four airliner jets and deliberly flown them into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and the fourth plane that crashed in a field in Pennslyvania. Gehlen Catholic School will hold a special program on Friday morning entitled: “We Remember”. Dick Sievert is one of the co-coordinators for the program.
He says the program will serve three purposes: First, the prayer service will begin with a flashback and rememberance for the victims and their families of 9-11. Secondly, the prayer service is designed to educate Gehlen Catholic students, many of whom were not born or too little to understand the tragic events that transpired ten years ago. Finally, the service will express the school’s admiration and gratitude for the courage and service of our local law enforcement, fire, and emergency personnel. The public is invited to the event scheduled for Friday morning at 8:45 a.m. at the Bob Kneip Family Gym on the Gehlen Catholic campus.
(Hinton) — Hinton Fire Department responded to a grass fire Wednesday afternoon — twice. The fire department was called to the rural area along the Plymouth and Woodbury County line to extingish a grass fire that also started three big round bales on fire. Once the fire was under control, fire fighters returned to their station, only to be called back to the original sight. The hay bales were smoldering and started on fire again. Fire officials are not certain what started the fire, and it still remains under investigation.
(LeMars) — Mayor Dick Kirchoff is hoping he can remain at his present job. Kirchoff submitted nomination papers on Tuesday seeking another term for the position of mayor.
(LeMars) — The LeMars Y is making final preparations for the LeMars Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday. Atheletes will compete in a combination of three events: running, swimming, and riding a bicycle. The Y is still seeking volunteers to assist with the event. If you would like to volunteer, you are urged to contact the LeMars Y.
