(LeMars) — Sunday marks the tenth anniversary of 9-11 when terrorists dramatically changed the lives of all Americans by flying aircraft into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The tragic events touched everyone, but for police officers, fire fighters, first responders, and airline crew members it perhaps left an even deeper emotional scar. 9-11 is one of those historical events that we’ll recall exactly what we were doing during the time we first heard the news.
LeMars Police Chief, Stewart Dekkenga was attending a police convention at Des Moines when 9-11 occured.

Dekkenga says he never visited the World Trade Center, and because of that it was hard to imagine how large the buildings were, and how many people were inside at the time of the disaster.

As time has passed, we as a nation have returned to our normal lives, often times placing terror threats in the back of our minds, but the LeMars Police chief hopes people never completely forget about the events of 9-11.
