(LeMars) — The LeMars Chamber of Commerce 4th Quarter Boss of the Quarter has been selected. It’s Teresa Shaver.
Shaver is the director of The Living Center. Beth Campbell submitted the nomination for Teresa Shaver and had this to say about her. “Teresa is not only the director of The Living Center and the person to whom we report, she is a friend to every person on the staff. When a member of The Living Center Team has something to visit with Teresa about, she will listen attentively. She will then evaluate what we’ve said and give us a very thought out, positive and prayed about response. Teresa has very high values which makes it easy to give her the respect she so richly deserves. We look forward to each day with her as she is a fair, passionate and fun person to have as our director. Teresa believes very strongly in the mission and vision of The Living Center and does her job with the love and understanding with which God has gifted her. Speaking for the entire staff at The Living Center, Teresa we love you and would not trade the opportunity to work with you as our director.” Congratulations to Teresa Shaver for being named the Chamber’s Boss of the Quarter.
(Hinton) — Hinton Fire Department responded to a garage and house fire on Saturday evening. The fire was at 33505 Hickory Ave, and is owned by Paul and Rita Swanson. The Hinton Fire Department had to ask for assistance from the Lawton Fire Department to help battle the blaze. Fire Chief Chad Beck believes the origin of the fire was a candle that was left unattended in the garage. He says the candle ignited some newspapers that were under the candle. Beck says the garage and adjoining house sustained extensive smoke and fire damage. He says that at least 80 percent of the structure was affected by the fire. The Hinton Fire Department was at the scene for nearly three hours. The fire remains under investigation.
(LeMars) — The LeMars City Council will gather for its regular Tuesday meeting. The agenda includes final planning for the water meter change out, plus a review of the loan application to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. In addition, the Council is expected to issue new bonds, and review a proposal from airport manager Earl Draayer to add to the airport’s current apron for additional airplane parking.
(LeMars) — The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors are scheduled to convene for their weekly Tuesday meeting. The Supervisors are expected to discuss the proposed air conditioning costs to the courthouse, and approve a precinct agreement between Plymouth County and the City of Sioux City. They are also expected to act on a subdivision addition in Union Township.
(LeMars) — The LeMars Diabetic Support Group will meet at Floyd Valley Hospital on Monday, October 3rd. Diane Baack, Floyd Valley Hospital SHIP representative will be on hand to talk about the many changes with medicare since new legislation has been passed. She says probably the most significant change is the so-called “donut hole” is being reduced or even eliminated.

That meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the lower level Conference Center room at the Floyd Valley Hospital.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – The Sioux City mail processing center has closed despite attempts to save it. The final pieces of mail went through the center on Saturday morning. Operations are being transferred to a processing center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The postal service announced the consolidation decision in June as part of its plan to cut its staggering losses. Iowa’s congressional delegation and others tried to fight the closure. Postal officials have said local mail delivery will not be affected by the move. However, Sioux City will lose about 70 jobs.
