(Kingsley) — When a friend or neighbor is in need, others naturally come to help. That was the situation this past Sunday when friends and neighbors of Brett McNaughton held a harvest bee and helped him with his fall harvest. McNaughton, who is just 49, and farms north of Kingsley suffered a stroke during the summer. Since that time, he has been in the hospital undergoing rehabilitation. Greg Roepke of Kingsley coordinated the harvest bee. More than 30 people helped with the corn harvest. Roepke says they were able to harvest 300 acres of corn in six hours.

Roepke says the McNaughton family was very appreciative and overwhelmed by the number of volunteers that helped with the corn harvest.

Two weeks prior to the corn harvest, about 30 other farmers equipped with six combines, six semi truck and trailers, and three grain carts helped harvest the soybeans. Roepke says it is nice when friends and neighbors are able to offer assistance to another friend in need.

McNaughton was overheard saying what would normally take him four days to harvest, his friends and neighbors were able to accomphish in four hours.
