Meet the Candidates: Craig Anderson (Board of Supervisors District 4, incumbent)

Primary elections for local, state, and national offices will be held in Iowa next Tuesday, June 2nd, and in Plymouth County, the only contested local primary election is in District 4 of the Board of Supervisors. KLEM is continuing our profiles of local candidates this week with Craig Anderson, the incumbent Supervisor in District 4.

Anderson has farmed in Plymouth County since 1977, having previously running a cattle feed lot up until five years ago, and has been a lifetime member of Plymouth County Cattlemen’s Association and previously a member of the Sioux City Museum board. Anderson says he’s running for another term to continue supporting his community.

Anderson says he’d like to continue being a member of a “good group” currently on the Board.

Anderson says he takes a lot of pride in being able to help the community.

Anderson will run in the Republican primary for District 4 against challenger Randy Kroksh. Kroksh’s interview will air on KLEM tomorrow.

City council approves Workforce Housing Tax Credit Program application for planned manufactured home community

During the Le Mars city council meeting last Tuesday, the Board approved sending a Workforce Housing Tax Credit Program application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority for a planned 95-unit manufactured affordable home community built by Vision Builders, LLC.

The community, to be known as Floyd View, will be located north of the Parkview Terrace mobile home community on land purchased from the Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation (LBIC). As part of the application, a local match is required, for which LBIC requested the council to reduce the purchase price of the land the development would be located at. A previous development agreement between LBIC and the city required a sale price of $780,200 for the property.

The council approved amending the agreement to reduce the sale price to a maximum of $460,000, as well as agreeing to a request from LBIC to take a subordinate position on the mortgage to a bank loan for underground utility work and related site improvements. Vision Builders will apply for the tax credits for Phase 1 of the project, which will consist of 32 of the 95 units, with the total investment for the full development estimated at nearly $18.4 million.

No timetable for the development was indicated during the meeting.
