(LeMars) — Tomorrow is election day and voters in LeMars will decide upon the mayor’s race and two council members…all of which are running unopposed. Running for LeMars Mayor is Dick Kirchoff, and Delana Ihrke and John Rexwinkel are the city council candidates seeking re-election. Besides selecting the mayor and council members, LeMars residents will cast their vote for three people seeking a position on the Floyd Valley Hospital Board of Trustees. Like the mayor and the council members, they are also unopposed. Running for re-eclection include Bill Rosacker, Larry Peterson and Ralph Klemme. Voters will also decide as to what type of governing representation they would like for the future. A yes vote would mean you are in favor of changing from the present day ward representation system to all at-large representation. A no vote would mean you would like to see no changes in the current style of city government. Polls will be open from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.
(LeMars) — Speaking about the Floyd Valley Board of Trustees, they have scheduled their regular monthy meeting for Tuesday evening. The Trustees will discusss a self evaluation on the governing board. In addition, they will review and approve capital acquistions. That meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 with dinner and the meeting is to begin at 6:00 p.m.
(LeMars) — Customers of the First National Bank in downtown LeMars will notice a convenient drive through has re-opened. The facility has undergone a top to bottom renovation of its drive-up banking services. As part of the renovation, customers now easily enter the drive up off of Central Avenue, conduct their transactions and exit onto 1st Avenue. To ensure the smooth flow of traffic, First National Bank has contructed two lanes offering motorists easy in and easy out convenience to conduct their transactions.
LARCHWOOD, Iowa (AP) – One person has died in a fiery crash that ignited a stack of hay bales in a field near Larchwood.
The Lyon County sheriff’s office said that investigators believe the vehicle went off the road early Saturday morning, traveling into a ditch and then into bean and corn fields before hitting the
hay bales. The vehicle was found as firefighters were battling the fire, which involved 30 round bales.
The victim’s name has not been released.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A new poll suggests that Iowa Republicans are most concerned about the U.S. debt and jobs in the run-up to the Jan. 3 caucuses.
The Des Moines Register’s Iowa Poll says 48 percent of those surveyed felt the national debt and government spending was among the top one or two issues for the next president to address. Some
47 percent felt jobs and the economy were among the top issues.
The poll found women tended to rank jobs higher debt, with the issues ranked opposite for more men.
Four years ago, Iowa Poll respondents said national security and terrorism were the top campaign issues. The poll of 400 likely Republican caucus-goers was conducted Oct. 23-26 by Selzer and Company.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A group of computer hackers is urging its supporters to shut down the Iowa caucuses. The Des Moines Register reports Anonymous has taken credit for an online video calling for people to “peacefully shut down” the January 3rd caucuses. A spokesman for Iowa’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division says that state officials have been preparing security plans for the caucuses before the video surfaced.
