(Des Moines) — The Iowa Economic Development Authority approved awards to three projects in the state that are expected to create jobs. One of those projects involves Bo-Deans Cone Company of LeMars. Bo-Deans is expanding its operations and intends to hire an additional nine people with its 15,000 square foot addition. Tina Hoffman of the Iowa Economic Development Authority says Bo-Deans is a great story.

The company ships cones across the United States and internationally. The addition will be on the north end of the cone plant and will accomodate two ovens, several line extensions, baking chain, mix system, and a flour silo.
DAKOTA CITY, Neb. (AP) – Tyson Foods plans an $8.4 million expansion of its Dakota City plant.
Building permits filed in Dakota City show Tyson wants to add a new, two-story building and add on to an existing facility at its beef-processing plant. The permits don’t give a timeline for the
construction projects.
Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson confirmed the plans and said more jobs would be offered at the plant in the next few years but declined to provide more details.
(Orange City) — The 2012 Tulip Festival Queen will be crowned on Monday evening at the annual Tulip Queen Pageant. The pageant will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Orange City Town Hall. Vying for the crown are five Orange City residents, including: Samantha Droog, Jennifer Guthmiller, Jacquelyn Jacobsma, Lauren McDonald, and Caitlyn Van Es. The candidates will spend the afternoon with three judges. They will be interviewed on various topics and will give presentations on a particular question regarding growing up in Orange City.
(LeMars) — Saturday was the first look at winter for most of northwest Iowa as ice formed on many of the roads and highways causing numerous accidents and people sliding off the roadway into the ditch. Plymouth County Sheriff’s office did not have a total number of vehicles that were reported in the ditch as a result of the icy conditions.
(LeMars) — The Iowa Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that took place on Saturday on County road C-38. A pick up truck, driven by 26 year old Cassandra Lange of LeMars lost control and rolled in the ditch on its top. Four people were injured during that accident. All four were transported to the Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars. The Iowa Highway Patrol hasn’t released the other names involved in the accident.
SAC CITY, Iowa (AP) – About 500 customers in Sac County were without power after wind and ice brought down electrical lines.
A Mid-America Energy spokesperson says that more than 200 of the outages reported Saturday were in Sac City. Power was restored to all affected customers later in the day.
Meanwhile, authorities in northwest Iowa were dealing Saturday with weather-related crashes.
Officials in the Sioux City area say at least 50 fender benders were reported and a stretch of Interstate 29 south was closed for a short time due to a crash. None of the crashes were serious.
