Floyd Valley Hospital To Unviel Expansion Plans to City Council
(Le Mars) — Floyd Valley Hospital is scheduled to unviel its plan for a possible expansion to its facilities,during Tuesday’s Le Mars City Council meeting. Floyd Valley is looking at obtaining a low interest loan from the U-S-D-A’s Rural Development in order to help finance the project. Floyd Valley Hospital Board of Trustees have not yet formally voted to approve the measure, but they have given their permission to ask administration officials to gather facts and a composite drawing from the architech.
Remsen To Have Water Outage
(Remsen) — The Remsen Municipal Utilities will be scheduling a water outage on Tuesday, June 19th. Some customers may experience a water outage from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for the repair of a fire hydrant. Customers may experience water discoloration for 2-3 days after the water mains are turned back on. Please refrain from washing whites during that time frame. If you have questions, you can contact the Remsen utility office at 786-2136.
Chamber “Cash Mob” Scheduled for Thursday
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its first “cash mob” scheduled for Thursday at noon. Shoppers are asked to gather at the Le Mars Chamber offices with at least $20 in hand. The Chamber will then select a name of a Chamber business located within the downtown district, and the shoppers are urged to go to that selected business and purchase at least $20 worth of items. Chamber officials believe the “cash mob” will show support for the business and help the local economy. Other “cash mobs” will be scheduled during the summer.
Pedersen Honored As Employee of the Month
(Le Mars) — Speaking about the Le Mars Chamber, Maria Pedersen of Murphy, Collins, and Bixenman law firm has been chosen as the June Chamber Employee of the Month. Pedersen is coming up on five years employment with Murphy, Collins, and Bixenman. She is the accounting and payroll manager and is described by her colleages as being hard working, thorough, creative, and conscientious who comes to work each day with a positive attitude, fully capable of handling the many challenges handed to her throughout the day. The nomination submitted by Patrick Murphy, says of Pedersen “that she will see a job through to its end, all without complaint. She is a pleasure to work with and throughout her years with Murphy, Collins, and Bixenman, she has always gotten along well with the clientele, the attorneys, and the other employees of the firm.”
Anderson Comments About Highway 20
(Correctionville) — We mentioned last week about the plans by the Iowa Department of Transportation to make U-S Highway 20 a four lane road between Moville and Correctionville, and eventually across the state of Iowa. State Senator Bill Anderson of Pierson was in attendance for the Iowa D-O-T’s public unveiling. He says a four lane Highway 20 will benefit many people.

Anderson says the completion of Highway 20 is now a priority with the Governor, as well as the state legislature. He says the concern is coming up with the needed funding, which may include an increase in gasoline taxes.

Work on the eleven mile stretch of road between Moville and Correctionville is scheduled to begin in 2014 at a cost of $83 million.
Two Boats Collide on Des Moines River – One Dead
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A collision between two boats on the Des Moines River left one dead and at least two others injured.
Kevin Baskins, spokesman for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says the crash happened before 7 p.m. Sunday on the river near the Birdland Marina area. That’s located just downriver
from downtown Des Moines.
The DNR didn’t release the names of those involved and didn’t provide details about the accident.
The DNR was investigating the crash Sunday night.
Accident on Highway 30 Claims 2 Lives
BOONE, Iowa (AP) – Two people were killed in a weekend crash on U.S. Highway 30 in central Iowa.
The Nebraska State Patrol says 77-year-old Dorothy Peter and 80-year-old Delbert Peter, both of Boone, died from injuries sustained in the crash shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday.
An accident report says 15-year-old Daniel Peter of Ames was driving an SUV west and changing lanes to make a left turn. It says a Hummer Limo driven by John Barker Junior of Des Moines “came
into contact” with the SUV.
Peter’s SUV went off the road and rolled, ejecting one of the passengers. The limo came to rest in the median.
Two other people, 28-year-old Danielle Snook of Davenport and 24-year-old Loyd Hise of Guthrie Center were taken to a Des Moines hospital.
Authorities are still investigating.
