Le Mars Issues Odd/Even Day Water Restrictions
(Le Mars) — Le Mars City officials have issued a water conservation program that started Wednesday. Le Mars City Administrator, Scott Langel says the city has been using five million gallons of water on a daily basis, which is close to the capacity level for the treatment plant.

Langel says the city is asking its residents to follow an odd and even day watering program. He also suggests residents to do their watering during the evening hours.

He says this is a mandatory restriction and failure to comply could result in fines and penalties starting at $100 and going up to $500.
Extension To Host Drought Meeting
(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Extension will host a drought meeting for farmers this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. That meeting will take place at the Le Mars Convention Center, Lower Level. Discussions will focus on crop development under drought conditions, feeding drought damaged crops, crop insurance
considerations, and government assistance programs.
Akron Woman Arrested For Stealing Medication
(Le Mars) — An Akron woman has been charged with stealing prescription medication. 37 year old Sabrina Hoffer was arrested on Tuesday for theft in the 5th degree, a simple misdemanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s office had received a complaint about stolen prescription medication. During the investigation, it was determined that the victim had a tota of 62 capsules of a schedule II prescription stolen from her over a 30-day period. The investigation identified Hoffer as a possible suspect of the thefts. When officers went to the Hoffer residence to interview her, 14 capsules of the medication were located.
Le Mars Police To Hold Bike Sale
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department will hold a bicycle sale on Thursday, July 26. About 30 abandon bikes will be available. All bikes will sale for $10 each with a limit of one per person. Sale hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. The sale location will be at the Le Mars Police Station at 22 2nd Street Northeast, in Le Mars.
Cone Maps Now Available
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Chamber of Commerce now have maps available for the public identifying the location of the 55 fiberglass ice cream cones and the one cow. The maps provide people with the location of each cone, the sponsor name, and the artist name. The Chamber was awarded $400 last February from the Le Mars Hotel-Motel Sales tax receipts in order to finance the project. Maps are
available at the Le Mars Arts Center, City of Le Mars and the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce offices.
Fairboard Showcases New Livestock Barn
(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Fair is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and fairgoers will notice a few changes, including a new livestock pavilion. Fair president, Tony Schroeder says the fairboard decided to construct a new facility that would serve the needs well into the future.

The new barn measures 150 feet by 100 feet and will house the beef and sheep exhibits. Schroeder says the new barn will be able to hold up to 135 head of cattle comfortably. The fairboard is planning to hold an open house on Friday evening, in order to showcase the new facility.

Other improvements include a new sidewalk, and the kiddie barn has been moved away from the food stand restaurants. What was the old kiddie barn will now serve as a shelter house for picnic area.
Florida Based Company Agrees to Refund Iowans
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa authorities say a Florida-based online membership club retailer has agreed to pay $135,000 in refunds to Iowans who were charged for memberships in the company’s
programs.
A news release from the Iowa Attorney General’s Office says BestBrandValues.com, which is based Boca Raton, Fla., sells several products on various online sites.
Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller says someone completing an online order would be given the chance to save $5, but clicking to get the savings led to membership charges disclosed in small print.
Iowa law requires much more prominent disclosures.
The monthly fees ranged from $9.95 to $19.95 a month.
BestBrandValues.com’s agreement with Iowa says the company will pay $10,000 to Iowa for consumer fraud enforcement. In the agreement, the company denied liability.
Search Continues For Missing Cousins
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A spokeswoman for a company that collects trash in a northeast Iowa city where two young cousins disappeared says trash from the city is being separated from other
collections.
Debbie Acklin of Black Hawk County Waste Disposal says authorities asked the company Monday to start dumping trash from Evansdale homes and businesses in a separate area of the county landfill. That will aid investigators into the girls’ disappearances.
Eight-year-old Elizabeth Collins and 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey were last seen Friday at their grandmother’s house in Evansdale. Their bicycles and Elizabeth’s purse were found at nearby Meyers Lake, and FBI dogs detected the girls’ scent in the area.
An FBI spokeswoman says an agency dive team from Los Angeles, California may also be called in to help search the lake.
