(Sioux Center) — A new hospital and medical clinic will soon be coming to our area. Sioux Center’s Avera Community Hospital and Health Center broke ground this summer, and is working toward a December 2013 completion with an early 2014 move-in.
The hospital celebrated their 60th Anniversary last year, and back in 1951 the facility was built with in-patient care in mind. Now, with 75 percent of their care going toward out-patient services, it was decided that change was needed.
In 2006 a committee decided that remodling would cost just as much, if not more, than to rennovate and expand.
CEO Kayleen Lee says that 2009 was a big year with land being purchased and community focus groups became a priority in order to find out what the people wanted. Over 200 surveys returned the following results:

With the theme “Built Around You” to guide them, they heard what the community had to say and started planning to build a hospital with a healing environment that is asthetically pleasing. Another guilding principle for the planning was family friendly care, and wayfinding. Lee explains why it will be easy to find you’re way around the new Sioux Center Medical Facility.

Another important part of the building itself is lots natural light and pleasant views including a healing garden.
Lee says that the Sioux Center medical community is set apart by their “Health Ministry” mentality toward care.

Construction at the new Sioux Center medical facility is going on now on the east edge of town and will continue for the next year or more. Forty-four percent of the 123-thousand sqaure foot facility will be constructed by local contracters within a 15 mile radius of Sioux Center. The overall cost of the project is $48.5 million dollars, $11 million has already been raised.
