Police Investigate Auto Accident Near Truck Stop
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department is investigating an accident that happen on Thursday morning in front of the Le Mars Truck Stop located on Business Highway 75. Apparently, 17 year old Michael Nelson of Le Mars was northbound and wanting to turn into the Le Mars Truck Stop driveway when he made the turn and collided with a southbound car driven by 24 year old Kyle Jacobs of Akron. 24 year old Miranda Utesch was a passenger in the Jacobs vehicle and she was transported to the Floyd Valley Hospital after suffering some pains.
Plymouth County Celebrates National 4-H Week
(Le Mars) — “I Pledge my head to clearer thinking…my heart to greater loyalty…my hands for larger service…and my health to better living.” Those are the words that begin the 4-H pledge. Next week, is National 4-H Week, and Ann Schroenrock 4-H and Youth Director with the Plymouth County Extension Services says Plymouth County 4-Hers will be active in promoting the organization. Schroenrock says young people are better able to develop their communications, and leadership skills as a result of 4-H.

Schroenrock says she has personally witnessed the maturity and growth and development of many Plymouth County 4-H members.

The Extension 4-H and Youth Director says college professors immediately are able to recognize past 4-Her’s.

Schroenrock says that members of the Plymouth County 4-H County Youth Council will be visiting 4th grade students throughout the county and informing them about the many opportunities that present themselves to 4-H members. Plymouth County ranks as one of the top counties in Iowa with the most 4-H members at 435.
Waco School District Looks At Four Day School Week
WAYLAND, Iowa (AP) – The Waco school district in southeast Iowa is planning a four-day school week with extended classes Monday through Thursday and optional time for activities on Friday.
The Gazette in Cedar Rapids says the district is working toward the four-day week ahead of next year. The district has about 500 students and includes Wayland, Crawfordsville and Olds.
The plan, which has been approved by the state education board, will be closely watched by education officials.
School Board President Tim Graber says Waco is the first in Iowa to be given the opportunity.
While school on Friday is optional, officials believe most students will participate. The activities will vary between grade levels. Elementary students, for example, will get reading assistance while high school students will be directed toward career advancement.
Council Bluffs Police Look For Home Invaders
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) – Council Bluffs police are searching for suspects in a home invasion where a man ended up in the hospital with a head injury.
The Daily Nonpareil (https://bit.ly/WvozSF ) newspaper in Council Bluffs says the man was injured Friday morning when he and a brother tried to fight off three masked men.
Emergency Medical Services Director Rick Benson says the injured man was taken to a hospital in Omaha, Neb. He says the man was likely struck in the head with a blunt object, and had likely been
shot with a pellet gun.
Benson says the man was alert and talking when paramedics took
him to the hospital.
