Tomorrow Is Election Day
(Le Mars) — Tomorrow is the long-awaited election day. Voting stations will open at 7:00 a.m. and will continue until 9:00 p.m. Here in Plymouth County voters will decide upon a president, congressional member, state representative, a sheriff, three supervisors, auditor, soil and water conservation representatives, and the extension council. Voters will also have the opportunity to decide whether judges will be retained. Plymouth County auditor Stacy Feldman says you will need to be registered, but if you are not registered, there are other options.

Plymouth County Board of Adjustment To Hear Waste Treatment Proposal
(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Board of Adjustment and Zoning Commission will meet this afternoon to determine whether to grant a request from the City of Le Mars for a conditional use permit to build and operate a mechanical waste water treatment facility an a 11 million gallon Bio solid storage lagoon. The property is located in section 12 of Washington township.
Chamber Holiday Dollar Sale A Success
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Holiday Dollar Sale was proven to be a successful event. Mary Reynolds, Mainstreet coordinator with the Chamber office, reports that $91,200 of the $100,000 has been sold. Although both the category one, involving Hy-Vee, Fareway, and Walmart, and category two consisting of restaurant dollars are gone, Reynolds says there are still some retail business dollars available and will be sold from the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce offices. 183 people took advantage of the 15 percent discount on the Chamber dollars, with an average sale of $500.
Train Derailment Leads To Evacuation
LESTER, Iowa (AP) – A train derailment has forced residents to leave their homes in and around Lester in the northwest corner of Iowa.
25 cars left the tracks around 4:15 a.m. Sunday. No injuries were reported, but a tank car carrying highly flammable liquefied petroleum gas was among the derailed cars, prompting special precautions.
Residences within a mile of the derailment were evacuated, and a hazardous-materials team was called to the scene.
It’s unclear when the residents will be allowed back in their homes.
The cause of the derailment is being investigated.

Holstein Woman Dies In Car Rollover Accident
(Holstein) — A fatality auto accident occurred Saturday evening near Holstein. 33 year old Mindy Jensen of Holstein died as a result of being ejected from her vehicle when she lost control and left the road. Her car had rolled several times. Jensen was transported to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Non-profit Organization To Build Homes
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – A nonprofit organization is planning to build 13 single-family homes for moderate-income families.
The homes will sell for no more than $100,000 each.
The homes will be built on parcels bought from the city for $500 each by Siouxland Human Investment Partnership. The city had acquired the lots during utility and street projects and through
other means. Woodbury County Assessor’s Office records say the lots
range in value from $2,100 to $13,100.
The nonprofit group oversees several social service programs in partnership with other agencies. Its executive director, Jim France, told the newspaper that the group wants “to be a catalyst
to make this happen.”
