SRT Team Called To Resolve Incident

(Orange City) —  The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call yesterday at about 11:15 a.m. from a Shannon Mennon, age 38. Mennon said he had been living in numerous different areas of northwest Iowa, using different identities, for several years. He advised the dispatcher he was wanted in several States on felony warrants and wanted to turn himself in. He informed the dispatcher he was in a car located two mile southwest of Matlock, IA, at the Matlock Cemetery.  When officers arrived they became suspicious of the situation. They were unable to communicate or get a response from Mennon. The Plymouth-Sioux-Le Mars Special Response Team (SRT) was called to assist.
At 2:30 p.m., Mennon was taken into custody by the SRT, without incident. It was determined he may have taken an overdose of medication; consequently, he was transported to the Sheldon hospital by the Boyden Ambulance, under the escort of Sioux County Sheriff’s deputies. Mennon was later transferred from the Sheldon hospital to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be held at the Sioux County Jail pursuant a warrant of arrest issued by Ohio for Theft. There were also warrants issued for Mennon in New Mexico and Missouri.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Plymouth-Sioux- Le Mars SRT, Iowa State Patrol and the Boyden Ambulance squad.
