Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department Responds To Fewer Calls In March
(Le Mars) — The number of fire and rescue calls by the Le Mars Fire Department in March was down compared to other months. In the monthly report, the Le Mars Fire Department responded to 14 calls, of which three were fires, four rescue related calls, four investigations, and three times the city fire department was asked for request for service. Fire chief Dave Schipper reports that 15 Le Mars firefighters attended a fire school for additional training held at Western Iowa Tech Community College during the month of March.
NIPCO To Hold Annual Meeting On Tuesday
(Le Mars) — Northern Iowa Power Cooperative or NIPCO is scheduled to hold its annual meeting on Tuesday at the Sioux City Convention Center. Alan Lucken serves as the utility’s chairman of the board. He says environmental pressure and government regulations are making it more difficult to provide electricity to customers at a modest rate.

Lucken says environmentalists would like to see an end of coal generated electricity. That’s something that Lucken says can’t happen, at least in the immediate future.

NIPCO serves ten counties, including Plymouth and Sioux Counties and six municipalities.
Branstad To Visit China With Other Governors
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Gov. Terry Branstad says he’ll lead several governors on a trade trip China later this month.
Branstad says Monday that the mission will help continue Iowa’s trade relationship with China. He will be joined on the trip by three Republican governors, from Virginia, Wisconsin and Guam, and
46 people representing Iowa businesses and other organizations.
The group departs April 12 and returns April 18. Branstad says they will visit Beijing and three other cities.
Branstad says they will meet with government officials and business leaders in China. A meeting with China’s new President Xi Jinping (shee jeen ping) is not confirmed.
Branstad’s ties to Xi date back to a 1985 diplomatic trip that Xi took to Iowa, during Branstad’s first stint as governor. Branstad last visited China in May 2012.
King Concerned About North Korea’s Threats
(Washington) — In recent days, North Korea has threaten both South Korea and the United States saying they will deploy nuclear missles aimed at our major cities. So far, the threats have been just that. However, the actions of North Korea do have many people concerned, including Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King.
