Sioux Center Man Sentenced
A Sioux Center man has been sentenced on child abuse charges. Sioux County Attorney Coleman McAllister says33 year old Philip Eddie Stacy pleaded guilty and was sentenced Tuesday for the crimes of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony,and Lascivious Acts with a Child, a Class C Felony.
Stacy’s wife discovered sexually explicit text messages Defendant had sent to a 13-year-old girl in November of 2012,as well as nude photos of the girl on his cell phone.
Sioux Center Police interviewed the girl who told them that Stacy had sexually abused her on as many as 100 occasions during the preceding 18 months, beginning when she was 11 years old. A Second victim later came forward to testify against him.
Stacy was sentenced to 25 years in prison and immediately taken into custody by the Sioux County Sheriff. He will be required to serve 70 percent of his sentence, or 17.5 years, before he is eligible for parole.
He was further sentenced to a special sentence committing him into the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for the rest of Stacy’s life, with eligibility for parole, with this special sentence commencing upon completion of his 25-year prison term.
Hard Rock Groundbreaking Set
(Sioux City) Groundbreaking is set for Friday for the Hard Rock Casino in Sioux City.The casino is being built in the west end of the city’s downtown area at 4th and Water at the historic Battery Building.
Demolition of other buildings in that area is continuing for the 100-thousand square foot gaming complex. Eventually the former Bomgaars building between Pearl and Douglas will come down, along with Road Show video and the current Milwaukee Wiener house. A new Milw. Wiener will be constructed where the old Bomgaars building stands.
The iowa racing & Gaming Commission will approve the casino contractor on Thursday at their monthly meeting. They will also get a project update from Sioux City Entertainment President Bill Warner. Friday’s groundbreaking is set for 11am.
Clovis Begins Campaign Tour
(Sgt. Bluff) U.S. Senate candidate Sam Clovis of Hinton will kick off his “Uphold the Truth” tour Wednesday in Sgt. Bluff.
Clovis, who is a professor at Morningside College and a former talk show host on KSCJ Radio in Sioux city, will speak at the Pizza Ranch in Sgt. Bluff at 11a.m.
Clovis says while he’s well known in northwest Iowa, he’s now getting familiar with voters in other parts of the state:

After Sgt. Bluff, Clovis will have stops in Onawa, Missouri Valley and Council Bluffs.
Biden To Campaign In Iowa
Vice President Joe biden will return to Iowa in September to attend an event that future presidential hopefuls hace on their calendars.
Biden will speak at U.S. Senator Tom Harkin’s 36th Annual Steak Fry. The event will be held Sunday, September 15th from 1:00 – 4:00pm at the Warren County Fairgrounds.
San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro will be the other featured guest. Castro has served three terms as Mayor of San Antonio, Texas – the youngest mayor of a Top 50 American city.
Food On A Stick
(Des Moines) The Shrimp Corndog took top honors in the New Food Contest at the 2013 Iowa State Fair. The tasty new treat bested two other finalists after receiving over 75 percent of the votes. The winning dish will be available throughout the Fairwhich runs through August 18th.
The champion corndog offers a new twist on a Fair classic with three fresh shrimp dipped in corndog batter, fried to golden perfection and topped with a sweet jalapeno glaze.
The two other finalists, the Strawberry Smoothie On-a-stick and Bacon Wrapped Riblet, will also be available throughout the Fair.
