Classes Begin For K-P Schools
School gets underway today in some Iowa school districts. Kingsley-Pierson and Sioux city begin classes today, so drive carefully and watch for students and school buses.
South Sioux City Man Dies In Colorado
A South Sioux City, Nebraska man has died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Colorado.
The Colorado State Patrol says 19 year old Joshua Lester died Tuesday when he apparently lost control of his cycle and struck an oncoming car.
A patrol spokesman says Lester entered a curve on Highway 34, crossed the center line and then the bike began to roll.
The motorcycle then collided with the oncoming car. Lester was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was not injured.
Lester was a recent graduate of Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City. Funeral services are pending.
Robinson Still Missing
It’s been 12 days since an 84 year old Moville, Iowa man was last seen.
The Woodbury County Sheriff’s office now says they’ve discovered surveillance video that shows Dale Robinson’s maroon colored, 2000 Ford F150 pick-up was in the Argosy Casino parking lot in Sioux City at 1:08 PM on August 3rd.
Previously, Robinson’s last confirmed whereabouts were at approximately 12:20 PM on August 3rd leaving the Four Way Stop in Moville, Iowa.
Unconfirmed sightings of Robinson have come in from around western Iowa since that time, but the man remains missing.
Robinson suffers from several medical conditions, including alzheimer’s.Anyone spotting him should immediately contact
authorities.
VerMulm To Leave KTIV In November
Kristie VerMulm, the long tine evening anchor for KTIV News 4, is leaving the station and stepping down from the anchor desk after 17 years.
Her final newscast will be Wednesday, November 27th.
VerMulm cites family reasons, with a daughter in high school and a son who’s a 5th grader as why she is leaving..She says it’s been a privilege to serve the viewers in Siouxland and an honor to be a part of Siouxland’s News Channel.
VerMulm began her career at KTIV as a reporter from 1993 to 1994. In the fall of 1996. She returned to the station to co-anchor the 6PM and 10PM newscasts.
VerMulm, her husband Kevin, and their two children will continue to call Sioux City home.
Northwestern Campus Improvements
When students arrive at Northwestern College this month, they will find the campus transformed. The most significant change is the completed Jack and Mary DeWitt Learning Commons, a two-story, 58,000-square-foot addition to central campus replete with resources and space for student learning and community building.
In addition, students will enjoy meals in a remodeled dining center, and by the end of September, they can work out in a redesigned fitness center.
The DeWitt Learning Commons houses the college’s library and information resources, peer learning and writing centers, and archives and Dutch heritage collection. Common Grounds, a coffee shop in the building will serve beverages, and the Vogel Community Room on the second floor will host campus and community gatherings and banquets.
In addition, the learning commons along with the chapel flank a new boulevard entrance to campus on the north.
A month after classes start, the DeWitt Physical Fitness Center will reopen, the Mini-Gym area replaced by a 3,500-square-foot facility sporting new cardio equipment, resistance machines and free weights; three new racquetball courts visible through glass back walls; and a game zone with table tennis and pool.
Smaller summer campus improvement projects in Van Peursem Hall have resulted in a computer classroom in the Learning Resource Center and an additional biology classroom and dry lab on the first floor to accommodate growing enrollment in health sciences programs such as athletic training and nursing.
