Hinton Bale Fire Lasts Six Hours
(Hinton) — Three fire departments, Hinton, Merrill, and Le Mars fought a round bale, tree, and field fire on Saturday that lasted more than six hours. The fire was reported shortly after 2:00 p.m. at 33113 South Ridge Road west of Hinton. Hinton’s Fire Chief Chad Beck says approximately 75 to 80 hay and corn stalk bales were destroyed in the fire. Beck says the strong winds made it that much more difficult to bring the fire under control.

Beck says the fire was an intense fire between a building and a creek bed. He says it was difficult to get access to the fire and needed a lot of water.

The Hinton Fire Chief says fire fighters were not only battling the blaze, but also falling temperatures.

Beck says the fire started as a result of the owner burning some garbage that got out of control due to the winds. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. The Hinton Fire Chief did not have an estimate of value to the destroyed round bales.
