Floyd Valley Hospital Delivers First Baby Of 2014
(Le Mars) — A boy, named Ali Mohammed Muse, is the first baby born in the Floyd Valley Hospital for the new year of 2014. He was born on Friday, January 3rd at 11:34 a.m. The proud parents are Ibrahim Ahmed and Sadia Koronto. He weighed 6 lbs. 10 ounces and was 20 and a half inches in length. Dr. Aquino performed the delivery. Ali is being welcomed into the household by five sisters; Kowsar, Hawa, Qamar, Hanan, and Hayat.
Sioux City Police Investigate Shooting
(Sioux City) — Sioux City Police are working to find a suspect in a Friday afternoon shooting in the 1100 block of Oak Street. Office4rs responding to the call found that 32-year-old Nate McCauley had been shot. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Investigatorts are looking for two suspects and say the shooting t\stemmed from a disagreement between the men. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at Crime Stoppers.
Iowa Dept. Of Transportation To Introduce New Logo
(Ames) — The Iowa Department of Transportation will be rolling out a new logo over the next five years. The department told DOT workers in an email that it would cost “below $100,000” over a five-year period to implement the new logo in offices, vehicles and other printed materials.
DOT Director Paul Trombino says in the email that the agency is trying to reinvent itself. The new logo replaces one that’s been used for 32 years.
The department says it’s been falling $215 million short annually of meeting critical needs for repairs and upgrades for the 114,000-mile road system. Some lawmakers have considered a proposal to raise Iowa’s gas tax by 10 cents to generate more money, but it’s been unpopular in the state legislature.
Des Moines Men Fight Over Peanut Butter Sandwich
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Police say an Iowa man was arrested after he pulled a knife on his brother during a fight over peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1e5JdAD ) that Jerome Davis was arrested on Friday after the confrontation with his brother in their Des Moines home. Both men are in their 50s.
Davis’ accuser told police he was angry because he believed his brother was eating too many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Davis allegedly made three sandwiches and ate them in their living room, and made another less than an hour later.
A police report says the brothers began to argue about laziness and over-eating. Davis allegedly pulled out a folding knife and held it his brother’s face.
Davis was charged with domestic abuse with a weapon.

Okoboji High School Asked To Change Logo
OKOBOJI, Iowa (AP) – The University of Oregon and an Iowa school district are resolving a trademark dispute sparked by the use of a Nike-designed “O” emblem.
The Eugene, Ore., university has relented in its insistence that Okoboji schools stop using the logo within a year.
Oregon contacted the district in December 2012 after becoming aware that Okoboji’s maroon “O” looked nearly identical to the university’s “O,” which was designed by shoe and apparel company Nike. The Oregon “O” has gained national recognition as the Ducks have built a football powerhouse known for its flashy uniforms.
Okoboji has unveiled a new logo featuring a bearded pioneer wearing a raccoon-skin hat. Superintendent Gary Janssen says the district will replace the “O” on uniforms and elsewhere over five years.
