Graduation Ceremonies Scheduled For Sunday
(Le Mars) — Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for all area schools on Sunday. Le Mars Community will have 138 seniors receive their diplomas. Gehlen Catholic will graduate 49 seniors. 40 students from the Akron-Westfield High School are set for the promotion. Remsen-Union has 30 seniors to receive diplomas, Remsen St. Mary’s will celebrate the 11 students advancing, and Hinton High School has a total of 60 seniors set to graduate. Last Sunday, the 31 seniors from Kingsley-Pierson received their diplomas. Graduation ceremonies for Gehlen Catholic school will occur at 12:30 p.m. and the Le Mars Community High School graduation is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Both ceremonies will be broadcasted on KLEM radio.
Kickin’ Cancer’s Butt Fundraiser Set For Saturday
(Le Mars) — A fundraiser with the focus to raise money for cancer research with a cowboy theme is scheduled for this evening at the Le Mars Convention Center. “Kickin’ Cancer’s Butt” is part of the activities for the Relay For Life, and it will feature a silent auction, and a dance. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the dance to begin at 8:00 p.m. Kari Butcher is the organizer of tonight’s event.

Winning Lottery Tickets Still Unclaimed
TIPTON, Iowa (AP) – Iowa Lottery officials are reminding players to double-check their tickets, noting two winning Powerball prizes haven’t been claimed months after the drawings.
Both tickets were drawn in the eastern Iowa city of Tipton.
A $1 million winning ticket was purchased at a Kum and Go on November 16th, 2013. A $10,000 winning ticket was purchased at Family Foods on January 22nd.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports the winner has until November 17th to claim the $1 million prize at the lottery’s Des Moines headquarters. The winner of the $10,000 prize has until Jan. 22, 2015, to claim the winnings at any lottery office.
Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich says he hopes the winning tickets weren’t thrown away.
Unclaimed money goes to the lottery’s prize pool for future games and promotions.
Businesses Announce Expansion
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Cedar Ridge Vineyards, Winery and Distillery is expanding its operation in northern Johnson County by adding more production space and completing a grain processing operation for its growing whiskey business.
The project is estimated to cost just over $1 million. The state will provide tax credits valued at more than $40,000.
Owner Jeff Quint says more space is needed for production and warehousing as the business grows into new markets.
In 2005 Cedar Ridge became the first craft distillery to start up business in Iowa since Prohibition in the 1920s.
In July 2010, Cedar Ridge launched a bourbon whiskey product.
The company, located near Swisher, produces over 15 spirits and liqueurs along with a line of more than 20 wines.
The expansion more than doubles production capacity.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – State officials have approved tax credits to companies planning expansions in Cedar Falls and Milford.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board on Friday awarded more than $1.3 million in tax credits to Deer and Company, which plans to add two buildings and more equipment to a tractor testing lab in Cedar Falls.
The state requires Deere to retain 29 jobs in order to receive the tax credits.
The board approved a $300,000 forgivable loan and $706,000 in tax credits for Minnesota-based Polaris Industries. The snowmobile and ATV manufacturer plans to install a new assembly line to produce off-road vehicles at its plant in Milford, in northwest Iowa.
The company says it will add 150 jobs in Milford.
