Neunaber To Return To Plymouth County Within Next Few Days
(Le Mars) — Jon Neunaber, the man wanted as a material witness of the deaths of his parents, Donald and Ester Neunaber, was picked up for a traffic violation in La Crosse, Wisconsin and was detained by the La Cross Police Department. He will be coming back to Iowa and Plymouth County within the next few days, according to Plymouth County Sheriff Mike Van Otterloo.

Van Otterloo says Plymouth County authorities will escort Neunaber back to Plymouth County. The sheriff says the state medical examiner’s office has completed the autopsies on both Donald and Esther Neunaber.

Two Women Charged With Stealing Lottery Tickets
WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) – Two northern Iowa women have been accused of stealing lottery tickets from a gas station where they were former employees.
The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office says 52-year-old Julie Dietz and 45-year-old Julie Alford face one felony count each of lottery theft. Court records do not list attorneys.
Authorities say an investigation into possible theft at the former Al Gas Station in Waverly led to the arrests of Dietz and Alford, both of Shell Rock. Additional information was not released.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Dietz and Alford have been released from the county jail. They have pending appearances in Bremer County District Court.
Task Force Submits Reccomendation Of Future Veishea Celebrations
AMES, Iowa (AP) – A task force has submitted recommendations on the future of an annual celebration at Iowa State University that was marred by violence earlier this year.
The school confirmed Friday that the task force has submitted its report on the future of Veishea to President Steven Leath. He will make a final decision on the matter by early August.
The group was created shortly after a late-night crowd disturbance in early April. People are accused of overturning cars and toppling light poles. One student was injured.
The disturbance led to Veishea’s suspension this school year. The group has been meeting since then to figure out how the celebration should be carried out in the future.
Judge Sets $1 Million Bond For Waterloo Man Accused Of Killing Ex-Girlfriend
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) – A judge has set a $1 million bond for a Waterloo man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports 36-year-old Shaun Michael Hogan appeared Friday via a closed-circuit monitor at the Linn County District Court in Cedar Rapids on a charge of first-degree murder.
Authorities say Hogan killed 29-year-old Crystal Marie Gaffney, also of Waterloo. She is the mother of Hogan’s infant daughter.
Hogan was found Wednesday morning in the middle of a road near Walker. An autopsy determined she died of head trauma. Hogan was arrested Thursday.
Iowa Man Faces Firearms Charges Involving Accidental Shooting
HUDSON, Iowa (AP) – A northeast Iowa man faces a firearms charge in connection to a May shooting that injured one person.
The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Joshua Scott Casey, of Hudson, was placed into custody Wednesday. He faces a charge of reckless use of a firearm causing injury.
Casey is accused of shooting a shotgun at the person while the pair and two others were at a residence southeast of Hudson at the end of May. The injured person was taken to a hospital after being hit in the right shoulder. The wound was not life-threatening.
Deputies and local police were told the four people had been hunting earlier in the day.
Casey was sent to the Black Hawk County Jail. Court records do not list an attorney.
Women Confront Sexual Preditor
DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) – Dubuque police say a group of women confronted a man accused of trying to meet a 9-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.
Police say 22-year-old Lonnie E. Burns arrived at an apartment June 30 after communicating on Facebook with a person he thought was a young girl. Instead it was the girl’s mother.
The woman told police she pretended to be her daughter after noticing a private message between the girl and a man.
The Telegraph Herald reports the woman said she set up a time with the man to meet at an apartment, and Burns showed up. Police say the mother and two other women appeared. At least two physically assaulted Burns.
Burns faces a felony charge of enticing a minor. Court records do not list an attorney.
Iowa City Police Officer Receives Commendation
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – An Iowa City police officer has received a commendation for his actions, while off duty, to help subdue a suspect who was trying to take the service gun of another officer.
Officials say the incident happened May 1, while off-duty Officer Kevin Bailey was driving his personal vehicle to an appointment. Reports show Bailey spotted a University of Iowa police officer struggling with a man along the roadside. Bailey jumped out of this car and helped the other officer subdue the man. It was only afterward that Bailey learned the suspect had been trying to grab the other officer’s firearm.
Baily was honored Friday morning at a commendation ceremony at the Iowa City Civic Center.
