Infuenza Is Now Widespread

(Le Mars) — Influenza has now been categorized as being “widespread” and is in all regions of Iowa.  Tara Geddes serves as the Plymouth County Community Health Services Director.  She says several cases of the flu has struck Plymouth County.

Geddes says the flu has infected all ages levels, but the very young and the elderly are most suseptible.

The health official says February usually is the peak for flu season, and she says it is still not too late to be vaccinated against the flu.  There have been reports that say the flu vaccine may not be as effective against the influenza strains that are common this year, but never-the-less Geddes suggest people get the vaccine.

Geddes says there are two ways a person can get immunized to protect themselves from getting the flu.

She says the flu can hit people rapidly, with symptoms such as fever, headaches, fatique, cough, body aches, sore throat, and congestion.  Her advice as to how to avoid the flu…
