Remsen Fire Department Respond To Barn Flash Fire
(Remsen) — The Remsen Fire Department responded to a hog barn fire located about a mile and a half south of Remsen on county road L-12 Monday morning at about 8:35 a.m. Remsen Fire Chief Todd Tentinger says fortunately there was little damage.

Tentinger says a construction crew was working on the barn doing some remodeling at the time of the flash fire. He believes a spark ignited the methane gas in the pit area.

Fire fighters were on the scene for less than a half and hour.

There were no injuries associated with the fire.
Farmers Face Approaching Deadline To Sign Up For Farm Program
(Le Mars) — Farmers are facing three fast-approaching deadlines in the coming weeks. Jeff Davis, Farm Service Agency director for Plymouth and Sioux Counties says about 70 percent of the farmers in both counties have signed up for the next farm program. He says farmers first need to update their yields or re-allocate their base acres by this coming Friday.

Davis says farmers need to show some documentation as to the yields that were produced for the past few years. He says farmers can present their past crop insurance forms.

Local Pheasants Forever Chapter Schedules Annual Banquet For Saturday
(Le Mars) — This coming Saturday, Plymouth County chapter of Pheasants Forever will hold its annual banquet and raffle and auction. Chris Anderson, the president of Plymouth County Pheasants Forever says this year marks the 30th anniversary for the event.

The Plymouth County Pheasants Forever banquet has attracted more than 500 people in the past, and Anderson expects similar results for this year’s banquet. He says a wide variety of people take an active interest in the local chapter.

Reynolds To Take Iowa Woman Leadership Tour
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds is planning a statewide tour in honor of National Women’s History Month.
Reynolds said Monday that she’ll travel the state in March and meet with female leaders. She says she wants to see how women are “positively impacting Iowa.”
Reynolds’s stops will include Webster City, Aldin, and Atlantic.
While she is considered a potential 2018 candidate for governor, Reynolds said the tour was just part of her current role. She declined to answer questions about if she’ll run for governor in the future.
Rockwell Fire
ROCKWELL, Iowa (AP) – A man was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire destroyed his home in northern Iowa.
The fire was reported a little after 11 a.m. Sunday in Rockwell. Fire Chief Mark Lowe says the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Firefighters from Sheffield and Swaledale also responded.
The injured man was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Lowe suspects a space heater in the garage may have been the ignition source.
Fort Dodge Fire Victims Identified
FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) – Authorities have released the names of a woman and two young children who were killed in a house fire in Fort Dodge.
Officials with the Fort Dodge Fire Department have identified 25-year-old Amy Devlin, her six-month-old son Bryce Devlin and 5-year-old Joseph Kennedy as the three people who died in the fire Sunday afternoon.
Officials say they found Amy Devlin, Bryce Devlin and Kennedy in a second-story bedroom after the flames had been extinguished. Fire Chief Kent Hulett says the cause of death has not yet been determined.
Four others in the home were transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center. Their names and conditions are not available.
Hulett says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Des Moines Police Identify Frozen Dead Body Found In Park
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Des Moines police have identified a body that was found frozen in a park last week.
The police department says the body of Richard Miles was found without any shoes or coat on in a wooded area Friday in Water Works Park.
Sgt. Jason Halifax says police are still investigating his death. He says police don’t believe Miles’ death is suspicious, but think it was unusual because of where he was found and how he was dressed.
Although police aren’t sure exactly how long Miles’ body was in the park, Halifax says they think it was there for at least a few days. A missing persons report had been filed for Miles in early February.
