Stuerman And Schroeder Selected As Fair Royalty
(Le Mars) — The crowning of the Plymouth County royalty happened Wednesday evening during the Plymouth County Fair. The new king is Nick Schroeder of Remsen and the queen title was awarded to Christina Stuerman of Sioux City. Nick is the son of Tony and Shirley Schroeder and Christina is the daughter of Peter and Mardell Stuerman.
Fair Officials Indicate Opening Day Set Attendance Records
(Le Mars) — The nice weather from Wednesday allowed for a first day record crowd at the Plymouth County Fair, according to fair board officials. A final number has not been determined as of yet, but fair board directors say they believe the attendance to be more than 20,000 people.
Hoffman And Hemmingson Inducted Into Fair Hall Of Fame
(Le Mars) — Prior to the crowning of the Plymouth County royalty, the Plymouth County Fair board inducted two people into their Hall of Fame. Long-time Plymouth County Fair board member, and now director with the Iowa State Fair, Dave Hoffman of Merrill was presented the honor. Along with Hoffman is a long-time volunteer of the fair, assisting with open class entries, 4-H entries, assisting with judging, and she also helps 4-Hers with their educational presentations. Iris Hemmingson was the second person awarded the Plymouth County Fair Hall of Fame.
Sheep, Horses, Educational Presentations, And Farm Olympics Highlight Second Day At Fair
(Le Mars) — This is the second day of the Plymouth County Fair, and as Janelle Johnson, co program coordinator with the Plymouth County Extension and Outreach explains, the focus will be on the horse show and sheep judging.

Johnson says 4-H educational presentations will take place today beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Century Hall.

The Extension official says a popular event that has only been around for a couple of years is the Farm Olympics, scheduled to occur this evening in the covered arena at 6:30 p.m.

Wandering Bull Causes Two Vehicle Accident
(Maurice) — A wandering bull that got loose from its pen on a farm caused a two-vehicle accident last evening on Highway 75 at the Plymouth County and Sioux County border. Apparently, the angus black bull was on the highway at about 10:45 p.m. A northbound vehicle had initially struck the bovine, causing extensive damage to the vehicle, and causing the bull to end up in the southbound lane, when a second vehicle had struck the bull. Officials at the scene of the accident estimated the size of the bull to be more than 1600 pounds. Both the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department and the Maurice Fire Department, along with the Plymouth County Sheriff and Sioux County Sheriff’s Departments had responded to the scene. A final accident report has yet to be issued, but apparently there were some injuries associated with that accident. The victims were transported by ambulance to the Orange City hospital.
