Construction To Begin On 12th Street Southeast

(Le Mars) — The city of Le Mars is announcing starting on Monday June 19th Vander
Poll construction will be closing off 12th St. S.E. from Central Ave to 2nd Ave.
S.E. , they will be replacing storm sewer boxes. Local residents will be able to
get in and out of their residents, but all other traffic will have to use detour
route. Once they are done with storm sewer boxes Vander Pol Construction and city
workers will start to redo the street in phases and then those parts of the street
will be shut down to all traffic. City officials anticipate approximately 3 weeks
for this project to be completed.

Railroad To Repair Crossing Near Fareway

(Le Mars) — The Union Pacific Railroad has requested the Iowa Department of
Transportation to close the rail crossing on Hwy 3 in Le Mars, near the Fareway
supermarket, to make repairs to the at-grade crossing. The crossing repairs are
scheduled for next Wednesday, June 22, 2016 and they will start approximately at 8
-9 A.M. and should take 1 day to complete. Hwy 3 traffic will be detoured during
the repair. The detour will consist of 1st Avenue NE and 1st Street NE.

Fire Department Issues Quarterly Report

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department has issued its quarterly report
for the months of March, April, and May. The total number of calls for that
three-month period was at 140 calls. There were 48 fire calls, 21 rescue calls, 25
investigations, 14 times the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department offered mutual aid
to other fire departments, and 32 times the fire and rescue department had a
request for service.
Cakes To Remember Celebrates 50 Years

(Le Mars) –To commemorate 50 years and an estimated thousands of cakes sold,
Habitue Coffeehouse and Cakes to Remember is celebrating this milestone by giving
away what else, but cake. The celebration will take place today, with the Le Mars
Chamber of Commerce coffee being held at The Living Center. Cheryl Wells, owner of
Habitue Coffeehouse and Cakes to Remember says, “this is an enormous milestone”.
Founder of the business “Cakes To Remember” Betty Van Der Weide started in the cake
business 50 years ago.

(Le Mars) — Today is the day three of the Le Mars annual celebration known as Ice
Cream Days. Peggy Sitzmann joins us again to review the days activities. Sitzmann
serves as the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce vice president for events and marketing.

Late morning, Sitzmann says attendees of the Ice Cream Days celebration will have
the opportunity to view some historic buildings, as well as participate on a
walking tour of the city’s alley art exhibit. Sitzmann says the historic
preservation tour will gather at the Le Mars Arts Center.


A popular traditional event associated with Ice Cream Days is the annual smile
contest which will get under way at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

This evening, the Ice Cream Days will feature a motorcycle stunt show which is
scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Olson Cultural Event Center. The team of
motorcycle exhibition known as Real Encounter will provide an amazing new show.
