Rhonda Beach Honored As School District’s “Employee Of The Month”
Le Mars Community High School English Teacher, Rhonda Beach (left) was honored as the “Employee of the Month” on Thursday. Standing with Rhonda Beach is student, Abby Whiddon who submitted the nomination.
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Community School District has honored an English high
school teacher as this month’s “Employee of the Month”. Rhonda Beach has been
teaching at the Le Mars Community School District for nine years. According to
the nomination submitted by Barry Borchers, Rhonda Beach is a dedicated
employee…hard-working…and cares about the students. Student, Abby Whiddon says
this about her teacher: “if a student in Mrs. Beach’s class turns in all their
homework they pretty much can pass her class. If someone had missed a couple of
days of school, or has fallen behind she does so much to help them catch up. She
will come to school at about 7:00 a.m. with donuts for you and will help you catch
up. The student may be a month or more behind and may not come to school but Mrs.
Beach is always there to help them no matter what. During class if you have a
problem, or are confused she’s standing right next to you trying to help you
figure out the problem. She is so nice and takes so much time out of her day to
help anyone who is struggling. Mrs. Beach does not judge you no matter what
problems you have, or what you are going through. She just wants to be there to
help. You can talk to her about anything, and she will be there listening, and
trying to help you as much as she can. Mrs. Beach never gives up on any student,
even if she may know what the outcome may be. She’s still there trying her
hardest to get you back on track whether the problem may be about school work, or
just about things happening in your life, she is there. Our congratulations go to
Rhonda Beach for being named as the Le Mars Community School District’s employee
of the month.

Pilot Dies Following Plane Crash In Southern Iowa
CHARITON, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say a pilot has been found dead after the crash
of his plane in south-central Iowa.
The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday that the
plane went down in northwestern Lucas County. The release said the pilot was alone
in the plane but did not provide other details, including the pilot’s name and the
type of plane he was flying.
The Sheriff’s Office says it was advised Wednesday afternoon by air traffic
control in Des Moines that radar contact with the private plane had been lost and
that officials thought the plane was somewhere in Monroe County. Searches were
conducted in Monroe County and adjacent Lucas County, and the plane wreckage was
found around 5:30 p.m. in Lucas County.
Fired Prison Warden Now Reinstated
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – A deputy Iowa prison warden who was fired in March has
been reinstated and awarded $40,000 in back pay, a raise and additional vacation
and sick time.
The Iowa Department of Corrections fired Michael Kane as deputy warden of the
maximum-security prison in Anamosa for alleged rules violations that haven’t been
released.
But the state reversed its decision last month, reinstating Kane with back
pay and benefits into an administrative job in Coralville.
Kane, who appealed his firing, says he’s “glad for the outcome.”
The Department of Administrative Services refused to release records showing
why Kane was terminated and later reinstated. A spokeswoman says disciplinary
records are exempt from Iowa’s open records law under a state Supreme Court
decision.

organizers will expand the program in 10 phases, with the next implemented this
fall.
Private sponsors are paying the $850,000 cost of the first three phases.

Wesley Deals With High Waters – Stops Pumping Waste Water
WESLEY, Iowa (AP) – The mayor of Wesley (WEHS’-lee) says the town has stopped
pumping untreated wastewater into the system that drains into a creek and
eventually into the Boone River in northern Iowa.
Mayor Duane Larson said Thursday the nearly 5 inches of rain that fell in his
part of Kossuth County on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning overwhelmed the
sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems and filled most of the basements in town.
That forced the town to pump the untreated wastewater downstream for about five
hours, ending at noon Wednesday.
City clerk Marla Wingert says she had about 2 feet of water in her basement,
“but everything’s pretty much back to normal now.”
Kossuth County supervisors say they’ll ask Gov. Terry Branstad for a disaster
declaration that would provide state aid.
