County Supervisors And Le Mars City Council To Hear Report About Ply-wood Trail

(Le Mars) — Both the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors and the Le Mars City Council will hear information regarding the proposed Plywood Recreational Bike and Hiking Trail during each of their respective meetings scheduled for Tuesday. The county board of supervisors will hear a report delivered by Jeff Stanley of the Plywood Trail Executive Committee. The Ply-wood trail is a proposed recreational trail that would join both Plymouth County with Woodbury County. It would start at Le Mars and follow the Floyd River to Sioux City.

Stanley says the proposed cost of establishing the recreational trail is estimated to be at least $10 million, and would be part of the second edition of the Community Betterment Project.

There are some people who believe the trail is unnecessary since Le Mars already has a recreational trail established. Stanley addresses those concerns.

Stanley says having a trail between Le Mars and Sioux City would prove to be safer. He says there are many bicyclists that already travel between the two communities using the paved county roads. He says having a recreational trail would take the bikes off the county roads and away from traffic. Stanley says the committee is beginning to visit with landowners along the trail to inquire about acquisition of the needed land.

Stanley says another entity that would need to be consulted would be the various railroads that have rail tracks between Sioux City and Le Mars. Stanley says its important to get the project started, and he offers a suggested timetable for the proposed project.

Stanley says there already are a large number of supporters for the proposed recreational trail that would join Le Mars with Sioux City. He adds the committee is looking forward to working with the various entities to make the dream become a reality.
