Trump Makes Campaign Stop In Sioux City

(Sioux City) — A capacity crowd of around 4500 people filled the Sioux City Convention Center Sunday afternoon at a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.  Trump immediately drew cheers by renewing his pledge to repeal and replace President Obama’s federal health care law:

He also described his rival, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, as a corrupt, insider politician and referred to the thousands of e-mails.  That spurred the crowd to chant “lock her up”:

Trump says he will also reduce the tax on businesses from 35 to 15 per cent to spur domestic economic growth.

He also says he will protect ethanol and family fuels.

Trump also promised to protect Medicare and Social Security as part of his final argument to voters just a couple of days away from Election Day:

He also renewed his previous promise to secure America’s borders by building a wall along our southern border with Mexico and suspend the Syrian refugee immigration program.

Trump says if he’s wins election on Tuesday, America will start winning again.

State House of Representative Candidates Address Issues

(Le Mars) — We continue our series of reports focusing on the State House of Representatives race for District 5 between Republican Chuck Holz and Democratic challenger Pat Ritz. Earlier we discussed water quality. In this report, we will look at education funding. Each year, school officials from across the state lobby the state legislature for funding. In recent years, the amount of money to be allocated to the public school districts varies greatly between the state House of Representatives and the State Senate. Holz is a former school board director with the Le Mars Community School District. He believes schools may find it difficult to receive additional funding from the state legislature.

Pat Ritz offers his thoughts on how much money schools should receive.

This last year the state legislature approved Governor Terry Branstad’s proposal to privatize the Medicaid program. After several months of delay, the program was initiated on April 1st, but it has been surrounded with controversy. The state house representative candidates were asked if the state legislature should open discussion with the state’s Medicaid program. We begin with Democrat Pat Ritz

Chuck Holz says the issue may again need to be addressed in the upcoming legislative session.

Republicans Believe They Will Take Both State House And Senate

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa Republicans say they’ll have the pieces in place on Election Day to again take control of the state Legislature.
The long-standing goal, if achieved, would enable the party to alter the state’s legislative priorities next year and move unhindered on a conservative agenda.
State GOP leaders are pointing to their party’s voter registration numbers in key district races as a sign of possible success on Tuesday to flip the Senate. Democrats currently have a narrow 25-23 majority in the chamber, and Republicans hold a 57-43 lead in the Iowa House.
Data does show an uptick in voter registration for Republicans this year. Early voting is also down for Democrats compared to 2012.
Senate Democrats argue Republicans made similar predictions in 2010, 2012 and 2014, only to fall short.
