(Remsen) — Although election day was more than a month ago, Monday was the official election for the next president of the United States. That’s because those people selected to be an elector from the Electoral College convened at their respective state capitals and officially cast their vote. Don Kass of Remsen is one of six Iowa electors. He was chosen from the Republican District Convention at Fort Dodge. Kass offers an explanation for today’s events
The actual certification of votes took place at 3:00 p.m. Kass says leading up to the electoral vote, he received hundreds, if not thousands, of email messages, cards and letters, and text messages encouraging him to not to vote for Donald Trump.
Kass says all the correspondence has been respectful, and he did not receive any threats, saying any threats against an elector is a federal offense.
This marks the second time Kass has been chosen as part of the Electoral College. He says he wasn’t seeking the position, since he had done it once before, but he was nominated at the Republican District convention.
The Plymouth County Republican party chair says he was deeply troubled by the atmosphere of this year’s election, saying he hopes it will never be that divided and personal ever again.
Kass says despite the numerous attempts to persuade him not to vote for Donald Trump, he says that will not happen.
