Fatal Accident Victim Now Identified

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office has identified the fatal victim from that auto accident that happened early Sunday morning on Highway 12, south of Akron. 25 year old Samantha Derner of Sioux City sustained fatal injuries resulting from a crash on Sunday. The other occupant of the vehicle was 25 year old Scott Allen Dennis of Sioux City. He sustained non-life threatening injuries from the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.

 

Monday Evening Accident Under Investigation

(Remsen) — An accident that happened last night on county road C-38, near Pioneer Avenue resulted in six different victims. Both the Remsen and Oyens Fire and Ambulance Departments, and the Le Mars Ambulance responded to the scene of the accident that occurred at about 8:35 p.m. No other details about the accident are known at this time.

 

Supervisors To Welcome Horton And Will Appoint Members To County Commissions

(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Board of Supervisors will convene for their weekly meeting. The county board will welcome new supervisor Gary Horton of Akron as he begins his four-year term.

The supervisors will elect a chairman and a vice chairman for 2017. The supervisors will assign their committee assignments. Also the supervisors are expected to re-appoint the members of the county compensation commission. The county supervisors are expected to appoint Curt Moodie to the Veterans Affairs Board for a three-year term. They will re-appoint Paul Schroeder to the County Board of Health for a three-year term. Ralph Klemme, Stuart Harris, and Peg Becker are expected to be re-appointed to the county zoning board for a five-year term. The supervisors are also expected to re-appoint Bob Schlesser to a five-year term for the County Conservation Board, and they are also expected to re-appoint Nancy Anderson for a five-year term on the Board of Adjustment. Following the action of appointments, the supervisors will hear from Anne Rust of the Pride Group as she presents bids for windows. Attorney Bob Brock will appear before the county board seeking approval for Homestead Track in Elgin township. County engineer Tom Rohe is also scheduled to appear before the county board of supervisors seeking permits for tile crossings. Rohe will also present right-of-way contracts for a bridge construction project.

 

City Council To Hold Public Hearings On Paving Projects

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars city council will hold its first meeting of 2017. On the agenda, the city council will hold a public hearing regarding the overlay project for Business Highway 75. The council will accept contractor bids on January 10th and they hope to award the winning bid to the contractor on January 17th. The council will also hold a public hearing on the Cresent Ridge paving project. In action items, the council is expected to approve the fees, licenses, and charges for 2017.

 

Fire And Rescue Department Issues December Report

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department has issued its December monthly report. All total, the fire and rescue department responded to 41 calls of which 25 were fire calls, five rescues, four investigations, three requests for services, and four times the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department offered mutual aid to Oyens, Orange City, and twice for Merrill.

 

Business Climate Showing Signs Of Improvement

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Soaring numbers in a monthly survey of business supply managers suggest regional economic conditions are improving. The Mid-America Business Conditions Index report released Tuesday says the overall economic index jumped to 53.1 in December from 46.5 in November. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests growth. A score below that suggests decline. The survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.

 

Des Moines Police Investigate 2nd Homicide of 2017

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say a man died at a hospital after he was stabbed at a house in Des Moines.
Officers were sent to the scene around 2:30 p.m. Monday. Police say the 55-year-old man died about an hour after he was taken to the hospital. His name hasn’t been released.
Police say investigators have identified a suspect, but no arrest has been reported.
