Officials Warn To Know the Rules About Fireworks

(Le Mars) — Now that the sale and discharge of fireworks are legal in Iowa, many people may not realize the new law has some rules dictating as to where and what time fireworks can be discharged. Le Mars city code ordinance for the discharge of novelty fireworks follows the state law. Fireworks can be
discharged now through July 8th, however, as Le Mars Fire Chief Dave Schipper explains, there are some time limitations as to when fireworks can be used.

State and city code prevents the discharge of fireworks from any public owned areas.

Another rule with with the new fireworks law is that you must be 18 years of age or older to purchase and to discharge fireworks.

Schipper says failure to comply with the rules of the use of fireworks could result in a hefty fine.

Le Mars officials will be enforcing the rules of the usage of fireworks.
