Floyd Valley Model Railroad Club To Hold Open House

(Le Mars) — If you have an interest in railroads and especially with model railroads, then you may want to visit the Plymouth County Historical Museum this weekend for the Floyd Valley Model Railroad Association’s Holiday Open House. The open house will coincide with the museum’s hours of 1:00 to 5:00
p.m. Saturday and Sunday. John Schneider is a member of the Floyd Valley Model Railroad Club. He says in honor of the upcoming Le Mars Sesquicentennial Celebration scheduled for next June, he will have on display a replica model of the steam engine locomotive that would have been used during the founding of Le Mars.

Children observe the Floyd Valley Model Train Set as featured in the Plymouth County Historical Museum during a May Day celebration.  Floyd Valley Model Train Association member, John Schneider answers the questions from the curious children.

Schneider says the model railroad display located in the lower level of the Plymouth County Historical Museum represents today’s rail companies as they pass through Plymouth County.

Schneider says the railroads played a major role in establishing Plymouth County communities. He attributes the railroads for allowing many communities to thrive and grow through the years.

Attendees of the Floyd Valley Model Railroad holiday open house can be eligible to win a model train set. Schneider says the organization will hold a raffle with the winner selected Sunday afternoon.

Schneider says refreshments will be served during the model railroad open house, which is scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m.

Two Men Found Guilty Of Selling Elephant Tranquilizers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) – Two Iowa men who unwittingly sold elephant tranquilizers that looked like prescription painkillers have been imprisoned.
Federal prosecutors say 20-year-old Cameron Lensmeyer and 20-year-old Evan Sage were sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. Both live in Waverly.
Lensmeyer had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute carfentanil and marijuana. He was sentenced to four years and four months.
Sage pleaded guilty to possession for sale of carfentanil, cocaine and marijuana and to a weapons charge. He was sentenced to seven years and one month.
Prosecutors say the pair sold hundreds of pills they obtained from a darknet connection. The pills looked like those containing the painkiller oxycodone but were really made of the opioid carfentanil – an elephant tranquilizer.

Deputy Shooting During Traffic Stop Ruled As Justified

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) – The Scott County attorney says a deputy sheriff was justified in using deadly force while struggling with a man after a traffic stop.
Authorities say 27-year-old Davenport resident Robert Mitchell died after the Oct. 23 incident on the north side of Davenport. Deputy Greg Hill had pulled over Mitchell’s vehicle because of a vehicle light problem.
Hill and Mitchell struggled when Mitchell suddenly got back in the car and backed up, with Hill’s upper torso inside and his legs outside. Hill then pulled his handgun and fired three times, striking Mitchell twice.
Scott County Attorney Mike Walton said Wednesday that Hill was
justified in using deadly force to ensure his own life and safety, the safety of another deputy who’d stopped at the scene and that of other people.
