Sioux County Authorities Investigate Found Dead Body

(Orange City) –– Sioux County authorities are investigating a dead body that was reported found near the shoreline of the Floyd River near the southeast edge of the Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. A Sheldon Police Officer was initially dispatched to the scene. The police officer then
contacted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, as the location of the incident was in the jurisdiction of the sheriff’s office. The body was seen at about 10:12 a.m. Tuesday morning. Sioux County Sheriff Dan Altena says they found very little information for them to investigate

Investigators believe the body to be an unidentified male in his 30’s or 40’s. Altena says the body was taken to the Iowa State Crime Laboratory in Ankeny, and an autopsy may hopefully provide some answers.

More information will be available as the investigation continues. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office does not believe there is any immediate danger to area residents at this time.

Rohe Estimates Flood Damage To County Roads At Half A Million Dollars

(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Engineer Tom Rohe presented a report today to the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors regarding the condition of the rural county roads following the recent flooding. Rohe pointed to a map indicating which roads were the most severely damaged. Not surprisingly, most of the roads requiring major repairs are near the Floyd River, Deep
Creek, Willow Creek, and the Whiskey Creek.

Rohe says in addition to sweeping gravel material off the roadways, the flood also did some erosion damage to some of the Plymouth County roads.

Rohe estimates the damage to the county roads at more than a half a million dollars.

The county engineer says there are at least 80 to 100 areas that sustained severe damage.

Rohe says repairs have already begun, but he says all the repair work may not be completed until such time the frost thaws. He says the flood repair work may push back some other construction projects that were planned to begin within a few weeks.
