(Le Mars) — Nearly 600 people with the Democratic party from Plymouth County participated in Monday evening’s Iowa Caucus. The results from Plymouth County were similar to the state’s results with South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg taking first place. Mark Sturgeon serves as the Plymouth County Democratic party chair.
The entire state final results shows a virtual tie between Buttigieg and Sanders, and Sturgeon says upon the first alignment, there was a close race between the front runners in Plymouth County.
As for the long delay and technical problems encountered the night of the Iowa Caucus, Sturgeon says he was concerned something may happened when he tried using the app during the days leading up to the caucus, and encountered problems.
Sturgeon says although political operatives and national news media were blaming Iowa Democrats for the problems encountered from Monday evening’s Iowa Caucus count delay, he says it is not the Democrats fault.
The Plymouth County Democratic party chair isn’t sure whether Iowa will be able to retain its “first-in-the-nation” status after the confusion and nearly day-long delay.
Sturgeon admits to having an unpopular opinion when it comes to the Iowa Caucus. He says he would rather see the state adopt a primary vote for the selection of presidential candidates.
The presidential candidates have now moved on to New Hampshire who has the first in the nation primary election scheduled for next week.
President Donald Trump had easily won the Plymouth County Republican Caucus.
