Clay County Fair To Begin Its Nine-Day Run On Saturday

(Spencer) –– The World’s Greatest County Fair, the Clay County Fair at Spencer is scheduled to begin on Saturday and as Jeremy Parsons, the Chief Executive Officer of the fair says, everyone associated with the fair are excited to be back.

Clay County Fair is well known for having a large farm machinery equipment display, and Parsons says this year is no different.

Parsons says fair officials are proud of the entertainment line up scheduled to perform at this year’s fair.

The fair official says attendees will see a few new additions to this year’s fair.

Discount admittance tickets are available until midnight tonight.  Otherwise, adult ticket prices for those people 13 years and older are listed at $10.  After 5:00 p.m. admission is $6, and children 12 and under are admitted free of charge to the fair.  The Clay County Fair runs from Saturday, September 11th through Sunday, September 19th.

 

 

 

Annual March To The Capitol Honors Those Killed in 9/11 Attacks

(Waukee, IA) — The annual March to the Capitol returns Saturday to honor those who lost their lives in the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. Iowa firefighters and supporters will march 21 miles from Waukee to the west side of the State Capitol in Des Moines. The group will stop at seven fire stations and the Glendale Cemetery along their “walking 21 gun salute.” Community members are invited to join the march and bring American flags. The event begins at 9:11 a-m tomorrow at Centennial Park in Waukee.

 

 

 

2 People Suffer Life-Threatening Injuries in Cedar Rapids Stabbing

(Cedar Rapids, IA) — Two victims are hospitalized with life-threatening injuries suffered in a Cedar Rapids stabbing. Police were called to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital after the victims arrived in the emergency room. Officers say a 21-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen and a 17-year-old boy had wounds to the chest. Authorities were called to a fight in progress before going to the hospital, but no one was there. Investigators say they have interviewed witnesses and are trying to learn more about the fight. No arrests have been made.

 

 

 

Deadly Fire Under Investigation in Mason City

(Mason City, IA) — Authorities in Mason City are investigating a deadly house fire. Crews were called to the home Tuesday morning. Firefighters say they found an occupant dead when they were able to enter the house. The victim hasn’t been identified The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office is doing an autopsy. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation.

 

 

 

Elementary School Crossing Guard Struck by SUV in Bettendorf

(Bettendorf, IA) — Police in Bettendorf say a school crossing guard has significant injuries after being struck by an S-U-V. The crash happened outside Mark Twain Elementary School on Thursday. Officers say a Jeep crossed an intersection and hit the guard. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. Investigators are asking any witnesses to call the Bettendorf Police Department.
