(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department received a generous gift from Emily’s Furniture of Le Mars.  Duane McLay, the owner of Emily’s has donated three beds to the fire and rescue department.  The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department now have full-time personnel that staff the fire and rescue department 24 hours round the clock.  McLay says he wanted to donate the beds as a way of giving back to the community.

Mclay says the donation has a value of nearly $2500. Fire and Rescue Chief Dave Schipper says the members of the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department are appreciative of the generosity expressed by the local furniture store owner.

Schipper says since McLay donated the beds, the fire and rescue department can now use the money to purchase other life-saving equipment.

Schipper used the opportunity to tell of another community person who decided to hold an auction and give the proceeds of the auction to the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department.

Schipper says the auction items are what you would typically find in a garage, complete with various tools that are in good shape.

Schipper explains why the woman chose to donate the items and proceeds to benefit the fire and rescue department.

The Fire and Rescue chief says the department hopes to purchase extrication equipment from the proceeds.
