Plymouth County Farm Bureau Donates Clothing, Food, Toys and Cash to Mid-Sioux Opportunity Services
(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Farm Bureau dropped off donations of clothing, non-perishable food, and toys to Mid-Sioux Opportunity in Remsen on Monday to be distributed to area families. This is the second year for the donation program, and Mark Bohner, the Regional Manager for Iowa Farm Bureau, says this year’s donations far exceeded last year’s donations.
Farm Bureau Financial Services agents and Plymouth County Farm Bureau Federation collected donations of clothing, food, toys and cash to be distributed to Mid-Sioux Opportunity at Remsen. Bohner explains what was donated, and why the Plymouth County Farm Bureau chose Mid-Sioux Opportunity as the designated recipient of the donations.
Plymouth County Farm Bureau organization, along with its agents, will match the value of the contributed donations, which this year is estimated at $4,500. Bohner says by contributing the donated items to Mid-Sioux Opportunity, several area families will benefit.
Plymouth County Farm Bureau and its insurance agents began the collection program prior to Thanksgiving.
Le Mars Community High School To Feature Holiday Concert Tonight (Monday)
(Le Mars) — This is the season for special holiday musical selections and Christmas concerts. Le Mars Community and Gehlen Catholic will both hold their annual concerts and Vespers services this week. Le Mars Community High School is scheduled to perform its holiday concert this evening, Monday, December 13th beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the new competition gymnasium. Randy Ewing is the high school choir director for Le Mars Community High School and tells what we can expect from tonight’s concert.
Ewing says tonight’s concert will feature both traditional holiday music, as well as some light-hearted new festive music.

Ewing explains the musical selections that will be featured by the string orchestra, as well as the Big Red band.
Ewing says there won’t be any charge for admission to tonight’s concert held at the Competition gym. He says the concert is the school’s gift to the entire community.
The Le Mars Community High School concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the new Competition gymnasium.
Le Mars Community Board of Education To Convene This Evening
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Community Board of Education will convene for its monthly meeting this evening, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Education Services Center. The board will hear reports from each of the school district’s principals. The school board will hear a report regarding the school district’s financial audit as conducted by the accounting firm of King, Reinsch, Prosser & Co. The school board will hear a report from the Middle School Multi-Tier System of Support leadership team as they will deliver information regarding the Middle School’s MTSS program. The Board of Education will consider approval of three additional teaching positions, commencing January 2022. One FTE Elementary Special Education Teacher b. One FTE Middle School Special Education Teacher (temporary position for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year only) c. One FTE High School Special Education Teacher.
Lawsuit Filed, One Arrest Made In Sexual Assault Case At University Of Iowa Fraternity
(Iowa City, IA) — A woman who says she was sexually assaulted last year at a University of Iowa fraternity house has sued two of its members. Authorities say they have made one arrested in the case. Makena Solberg says she was invited to the FIJI house for a sanctioned event in the fall of 2020. The suit accuses two men of conspiring to lead her into a bedroom and engage in sexual activity without her consent. Carson Steffen was been charged with first-degree harassment. Investigators accuse him of sending a photo of the incident to multiple people on Snapchat.
Decision About Regional Water Utility Won’t Be Made Wednesday
(West Des Moines, IA) — Three more meetings have been scheduled where the public will have the chance to comment on plans for the creation of a regional water utility. The final decision was originally going to be made Wednesday – but, several interested parties said it was important to get a “more robust public discussion.” The vote on the idea by the West Des Moines Water Works is now set for January 26th. The three new meetings are set for Tuesday at the West Des Moines City Council Chambers, January 15th at the Valley Junction Activity Center, and January 19th at the city’s water treatment plant.
Sioux City Considers Using Federal Coronavirus Relief Money To Give $300 Bonuses Out
(Sioux City, IA) — The city council in Sioux City is expected to vote today (Monday) on using federal coronavirus relief money to give 300-dollar bonuses to its employees. The city expects to receive more than 40 million dollars from the federal government. City Manager Bob Padmore urged the council to devote most of the federal relief funding to infrastructure projects. Mayor Bob Scott and four other council members want to use 250 thousand dollars to provide the one-time payments to employees. If the idea is approved, they would get the payment December 17th. City officials say their employees did their work under “extraordinary circumstances” this year.
Renewable Fuels Association Hopes To Change President’s Mind About Cuts
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association is hoping to change President Biden’s mind about retroactive cuts to the nation’s biofuel mandate. Industry members in this state say they just exchanged one problem for another one when President Trump was replaced by Biden earlier this year. The new administration is said to be trying to retroactively reduce how much renewable fuel that oil refineries were required to blend over the last two years. Iowa biofuel producers that will hurt them in the future.
