Vacura Reviews City’s Accomplishments During “Lunch And Learn” Session

(Le Mars) — At the recent Chamber of Commerce “Lunch and Learn” session held Tuesday, Le Mars city administrator, Jason Vacura reviewed with the gathering the many community accomplishments and projects from this past year.  Vacura had a visual presentation that highlighted the year.  He began by talking of the expansion of the YMCA and Community Wellness Center.

Vacura says during this past year, Le Mars conducted some renovation to the popular Cleveland Park.

He says Le Mars has witnessed a lot of construction and expansion projects that will carry on into the next year.

The city administrator says with the exception of one project, and that is the completion of the proposed Ply-wood Recreational Trail that would connect Le Mars with Sioux City, all of the other identified Community Betterment projects have been completed.

One of the more anticipated projects that was completed this fall was the popular dog park located west of the Walmart store.

New businesses along with the expansion of other businesses has helped shape the landscape of Le Mars.  Vacura noted the construction and start up of the Kwik-Star convenience store.

Other expansion projects include Floyd Valley Healthcare, Gehlen Catholic cafeteria, Northwest Bank and American Bank, Schuster’s Trucking, K&N 4th addition, as well as the Dogwood Addition, plus other development projects slated to begin within the next year including a new HyVee supermarket store, and the construction of the Love Truck Stop.  The city was able to acquire approximately 270 acres of farm ground that adjoins the present-day Industrial Park.  Vacura says that addition should prove to be beneficial as the city is able to expand its Industrial Park, allowing for more production and manufacturing to set up in the “Ice Cream Capital of the World.”

During his remarks, Vacura noted according to the latest census report, Le Mars now has a population of more than 10,500 people.
