LE MARS TEACHER
The Le Mars Community Schools this morning awarded their annual Decades of Excellence Crystall Bell Award to Mrs. Dawn MacGregor.
Mrs. Mac Gregor has spent her entire career in Le Mars, teaching first grade for 24 years at Kluckhohn School.
Dawn says she found a method of teaching that has sustained her career development.
In teaching at the first grade level, MacGregor says she sometimes has to be a mom as much as a teacher.
Dawn was nominated for the award by her colleagues, freinds, and parents of her former students. The award is co-sponsored by the Le Mars Community School District Foundation and the school district’s Alumni Association. Mrs. MacGregor will be honored at the Foundation’s banquet later this month.
SPEED CAMERA SCAM
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says they have received at least two calls from residents stating they had received an email about an unpaid citation.
The report indicates these citations are from a speed camera system.
The Sheriff’s Office does NOT collect fines. Fines are paid in person or online to the Clerk of Court for the State of Iowa.

If you receive one of these emails, you are urged to delete it and never give out personal information to someone you don’t know.
IMPAIRED DRIVERS
April 20, or 4/20, has become synonymous with marijuana use, and in some circles, the date is a marijuana “holiday”. The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, the National HIghway Traffic Safety Administration, and state county and local law enforcement, will stage a traffic safety event on the weekend of April 20 to combat impaired driving.
Drug-impaired driving is illegal nationwide. But over the past ten years that statistics are available, the number of drivers killed in marijuana-impaired crashes nearly doubled. in 2018, 46% of drivers who were killed in crashes and were tested for drugs tested positive.
Law enforcement will have extra officers on duty April 19yh through 22nd to look out for impaired drivers.
DROUGHT MONITOR
A majority of Iowa remains in dry or drought conditions — but things have improved quite a bit in the last month. The D-N-R’s Tim Hall tracks the water summary.
Hall says turning things around is not a quick process.
He says the driest areas start in central Iowa and move east and north.
There are still some areas to the west that could use more rain as they have D-2 or severe drought.
Hall says the increased rainfall hasn’t caused any problems.
He says everything worked well with the snowmelt as well.
